i am getting a duron 700. i plan on o/c it to about 1Ghz. now my question, I live in the basement adn the air temp is about 7c all the time, colder in the winter .With air temp like that do i really need to shell out alot of $ for expensive fans or will the stock heatsink/fan work well. also what is the ideal operation temp for a duron?

Better cooling devices are always recommendable, no matter what the room temperature is! However, 7c is very COLD for a room temp (how can you live there, don't you just freeze to death? I like it better at about 22c!), which gives any cooler some appreciated "help". I think a nice air-cooler should do the trick for you...

My advice is that you wait and see, how well it does with the stock hsf, and if it still sucks (I bet it will), you should get something better. Let time tell! :)

you get used to the temp. I am canadian and it gets quite cold here so it has never really bothered me till it gets around -20. also thanks for the info

Hey fellow Canadian! If your room temp is only 7C, then all you should need is a good CPU HSF, and a couple of good case fans!
