I dont think you need to do anything I remember my 1.2 athlon was factory unlocked. You need to have a mobo that allows multi adjustments to test this or you could just look at the L1 bridges. Is you 1.2ghz a 200fsb 12x100 or 266fsb 9x133?

you should need to unlock it, jbslow got lucky and got one that was already unlocked for some reason. theres a million places in these forums and on the net on how to unlock tbirds, just search around a bit.

As far as I know all newer T-Birds 1.2 and up where factory unlocked. Just try to change the multiplier in your bios and see what happens!

Well I've also heard all 1.2ghz , 1.33ghz and 1.4ghz Tbirds came factory unlocked.

i dunno if you need an unlocked procesor to underclock or not but this might help. My 1.4 t-bird (100Mhz) works on lower multiplier settings. I can't go any higher to test cos My mobo doesn't have a setting higher then '12.0 or above' I haven't modded it in anyway.

200FSB 1.2 t-birds are unlocked. 266 fsb t-birds aren't. Check the default FSB. 266fsb t-birds can be unlocked with the pencil trick. Good luck.

Hum..

You need to find out your Stepping under your CPU

AMD Athlon
AXIA120021930293
Blahblahblah

Also, try to switch your CPU Multiplier, If you have the ECS K7S5A Motherboard series (SIS 745?) You will have to do some Mods :D That's software related.....

No. Sorry, but you got it backwards all 266 FSB T-Birds 1.2 and up are unlocked, guaranteed. 200 FSB Birds actually had to be locked above 1.25, since most mobos don't let you specify a multi over 12.5. :D

If it is a 200 FSB chip, the unlocking procedure is very simple- on the surface of the processor, you should see rows of dots next to a L#, just look for the L1. If it is locked, it will look like:

L1 . : : : :

To unlock simply use a very sharp pencil to make it look like this:

L1 . | | | |

MAKE SURE THE LINES AREN'T TOUCHING EACH OTHER. If you mess up, just erase it and try again, until you're sure you did it right.

I've got a factory unlocked 1.2 200fsb t-bird right here in my hand. I can't speak for all other 200fsb chips, but this one IS unlocked.

::slowly inserts foot into mouth::

But I am 100% sure that 266 MHz FSB chips 1.2 and up are unlocked, too.

That is right the 266 chips about 1.2 where unlocked from the factory (my 1.4 was). I never heard of the 200's being unlocked either, but some must have been.
