View Full Version : Pc 1066?
I have the option to upgrade a system I just put together a few months ago. I thinking about using a Asus P4T533-C or a Gigabyte GA-8IHXP with a 2.5 GHz chip and PC 1066. What mobo do guys recommend. Also I'm a little confused about the memory, Kingston or Samsung? Is it true that I will see a performance hit If I use 1024MB instead of 512MB because of cas- latency? My current specs are as follows, Antec 1080B case with optional front fan and 430 Watt True Power, Asus P4S533 mobo with a 2.0A GHz chip running at 2.2 GHz, 1024MB of Mushkin DDR333, PNY Ti 4600 and a Creative Audigy Platnium EX. My last question is do you think I will notice a performance increase by going with RDRAM? I'm using this computer mostly for simulators such as FS2002 and Train Simulator, they are both cpu hogs.
yes you will notice a difference, its said that only ddr 400 and rdr 1066 can feed p4 enough memory bandwith, besides overclocked rdr goes even higher
as for the setup, i suggest you get an abit TH7II and a couple of 256mb samsung pc1066 rimms it has the best overclockability ive read, but be sure to get good cooling...

Yes, I would second the recommendation of the TH7II. With some good RDRAM and good cooling, I'm betting you'll be able to take that northy a lot higher, too. Keep in mind that though the P4 runs very well with DDR, and for the "B" chips with high FSB's it is truly better, but with the 100MHz FSB CPUs, it is better to have some good RDRAM as the P4 was designed primarily for RDRAM. Enough of my babbling, I would think that RDRAM would be better in this instance.
