right now i have the volcano 7+ and its pretty annoying to put on, so im wondering, does the AX-7 with a 80cfm perform as well as the Volcano7+? if not, how much better or worse is it?
the main reason that i would want to return the volcano 7+ and get the ax-7 would be if the ax-7 is easier to attach to my xp chip...does anyone know of some sort of comparison page that compares these two or has someone actually tried both?
im wondering if it's worth sending the volcano 7+ back and pay the 15% restocking fee and then pay about 10 more bucks than i did for the volcano for an ax7 with a 84 cfm fan.
any advice?
The AX-7 is the second best heatsink you can buy next to the SLK-800, and it's actually quite cheap compared to PAL8045's, the SLK-800, and Swiftec coolers. Would there be a HUGE difference over the 7+? Not really, but it would definately be a better cooler. If you got the extra cash to spend go for it.

I have had the Volcano 7+ month now and my only real complaint is that the thin fins gets clogged with dust very quickly. It needs like a good cleaning like every other week minimun.
Here is the main reason to get an AX7 over the 7+.
1 Requires less cleaning
2 You can get the same or better performance with a quieter 80mm fan, and with a high flow like the Delta you will get better cooling performance
One draw back is that the AX7 is a little tricky to mount and remove from what i heard. Just so you know Im planning on getting one for my next rig that im building :)

gtsimmo, i have never had that problem. you should use filters on your intake fans. My only gripe with the Volcano7+ is the weight and the noise of the fan when used in "high" mode.
But apar from that a great heatsink

Since ease of mounting is a concern of yours, I would not recommend the thermalright AX-7. Instead I would suggest a Millenium Glaciator 2. They work just as well if you consider an AX7 with a wimpier than 80cfm fan... more like a 50cfm fan. And they are quiet also. I have one that I might sell pretty soon. I also have a fan upgrade for it that I'll include in the deal. the regular fan is about 29cfm (I know!! This HSF is amazing!) The extra fan I have is already modded to fit insode the Glaciator, it's a YS tech 40 cfm fan. It drops the temps about 2C, but it was too loud for my taste. Keep an eye open in the classifieds, or PM me if you can't view that section of the forums, if interested.

If you want to make mounting and removing HSF units easier I recommend getting a screwdriver that has removable bits.
The screw driver socket without a bit in it makes clipping a heatsink SOOOO much easier because you don't have to worry about nose-dives.
I have a few Heatsinks where that prong was too small, so I went out and got a small #6-32 socket driver and it works like a charm as well. Atleast, I think it's #6-32. It's the same size as the standoffs on I/O connections...
A week later I got a VIVO chip for my video card and one was included, DOH! :)

The AX-7 is a much better HSF than a Volcano 7+.

The Volcano 7+ fan is noisy for a 49cfm fan, 47Dba vs. AX-7 50cfm Sunon, 40.5Dba.
It is more expensive $50 vs. $25 AX-7 + $10 Sunon fan.
I am very pleased w/ the AX-7.
