View Full Version : Clients start at XP start but shut down at logoff
When the XP pro start the clients start as they are scheduled to.
But when I logoff and then logon again they don't start anymore.
Are they shutting down at logoff or at logon?
How do I launch task manager when there is no user loged?
Check out the thread here: http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=108364
Exar Jun was having a similar problem
As for getting the task manager, I believe Ctrl-Alt-Esc brings it up in WinXP.

did you set the client to start at system startup for the administrator account?

I don't know why it does start again when you log back on but I know you cannot fold when you are logged off. I think there is a way around that I don't know what it is though. :)

you can continue folding while logged off, if you're using the V3 client and you use firedaemon to run it as a service.
have a read of this how-to here (http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57902&highlight=folding+log+off) at overclockers australia.
(you will need to register to view that thread.)
if you don't want to register, then you can also view it at the OCAU F@H info page.

Kakao - You will probably need to use the gui client for this. When you have the client download and it is able to do work9configured properly) you need to schedule a task. To do this right click on my computer and click explore. If you run ie 5.5 or better or win2000 and above there should be an option on the screen called add scheduled task. You might need to run search for it. If it isn't there. Another common place for it is C:\Windows\Tasks.
Click on "ADD"and it will bring up a wizard.
Then you will need to click on next until it asks you for which file to schedule. Browse to the F@H directory that you have the client in and click on the console ie winFAH.exe. Your target for the task should be something like. C:\Program Files\F@H\winFAH.exe. Click next. Then check the box for running the proggy when the comp starts up. Click next.
Important..Before clicking on finish, check the box to open the advanced settings menu. Click finish.
You should now have a pop up menu where you can click on the settings tab and uncheck the box that says shut down after 72 hours of operation. Click apply, then ok and restart your system. You now will be able to always run this program whenever the PC is on.
Make sure to check you log frequently to make sure there are no problems.....Well I have folditis so I check it several times a day...You should also be able to check task manager and in the processes tab the fold client should be running at the percentage that you have it running the cpu...should be 99!:)!
This should help all folders. Good luck.

he could use the text only version( i have done this and it worked while logged out) for this because he is in XP. i find that it is easier in 98/me to use the client becuase of the shut down warning with the text client. this of course can be fixed with the conagent.exe (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=108805) file, but doesn't always work for me, in some cases it did and in others it didn't.
also if you are using an older version of the text only client make sure you use the -service flag , this will tell the client to run if service mode ( ie logged out)

Opps....yeah XP it doesn't matter which client you use. NT is a diff story.
Your help is very much appreciated.
XP Pro - F@H Console version 3.1
As I'm in dial-up I need to run 4 clients in order to have some cache so I can send and receive at once at night.
Each client has his own ID (1 to 4) and run in its own directory.
This is what worked for me:
Installed FireDaemon Service Manager Light wich has the limit of 3 services. Will try the Pro version later.
Parameters: -service -local
When I don't set -local the client try first to find the configurations at the registry and only then at the local directory. Although I think it has no significant time penalty it is free to set -local so he goes directly to the local's directory client.cfg.
Console Apllication ticked.
Interact with desktop ticked.
When I don't set interact with desktop it don't ask me to connect as I need.
About the console application I only tried it ticked.
It is working great. I restart, logon and logoff and the service don't stop.
For it to be a perfect 10 it would be necessary to hide the buttons in the task bar that takes a lot of real state...

glad it it working for you though! yu can hide the task bar buttons with trayit (http://www.teamcti.com/trayit/trayit.htm) or hideit2 (http://home.attbi.com/~wxdude1/emsite/hideitx.html) (i recommend it, it is at the bottom of the page)

In Windows XP(or 2k), the console versions of F@H will close when logging off. To get around this, run WinFAH.exe as the scheduled task instead.
I know this was mentioned above, but this IS the answer.

it is one of many ways to do it:D personally i am running 2k right now and the console as a task and it does work while i am logged out(i can test this buy tracking the machine via network with kdfold) i have also done this on XP machines with the same results.
But what i have found is that not every way works for everyone:( like on xp machine, the gui won't work this way and on another the console won't work, that is why i am glad there are many options when you want to hide the client:D
