I got a vendor to setup a 1700xp and alpha pal8040 on an abit kr7a board but somehow he didnt set it right and it burnt the chip on the brown area.

the chip still works and im overclocking it 1.7ghz but since its a littel burnt do you think it will hinder any future overclocking?

i tried to unlock my chip and when i reboot after changing my mulitplyer my system doesnt do anything, no boot, no beep, nothing

could it be the burnt cpu, or could i have messed up the L1 bridges?

I'm suprised the thing still works:eek:

It could be a bad unlock if it doesnt post. Try cleaning it off and try again, if it still doesnt work, try it without any attempts to unlock to see if it still posts. I'd take it back though, those burn marks could be blamed on you if you try to RMA or exchange it at your local store.

Why did you still purchase the processor if he burnt it? He hosed it, you should've requested him give you another one.
