I My new FOP 32 today, and i got a piece of 1/8 inch copper with the intention of putting it under it as a heat spreader. But the clip wont fit with it like that. Any ideas on how to make it fit, or other ways to mount it?

Comon guys, any ideas on how to mount this thing. I know somebody out there has an idea, speak up.

don't use the copper!! since the FOP32 is Al, you already have the conductive material...only use a copper plate with PELTIERS!!! Copper plates can actually make things worse on heatsink/fan setups

Then why does the Alpha work so well.

the alpha uses an inset copper base, i'd speculate adding a big block of copper would just slow the heat making it to the fins of the heatsink, if the heat isnt at the fins the sink cant dump it into the air. The alpha substitutes a bunch of aluminum for copper which is better at sucking the heat out of the core, but i doubt it'd be worth much on a FOP32 unless you machined the base of the sink out.

Right, makes cense.

I was just thinking that it would spread the heat out toward the edges of the sink faster, making better use of the heatsink. Just trying things.

Still, if anybody has a simple, low-to-no mod required way to mount it for a test I could see if it would make any difference.

the little alpha copper plate is a marketing gimmick, it makes little difference...
alpha's work well because of excellent fin design, good fans, good manufacturing (flatness) and other stuff...the copper is negligible...if you want a copper heatsink, get a hedgehog...i'm not sure if they are good or not...anybody?
