Well i ordered a new 2.26b and abit BD7-II
Here is the story of my situation
my amd xp2000+ which is one of the first steppings when it was released 6 months ago worked well with my abit kr7a v/ modded.
i could get to 1875mhz stable with my water cooling case until i fried the mobo trying to do the vdimm mod. this was 6 months ago. to this day. Now since then ive been away at school and i was using my old slot a athlon 1 gighertz till last week i ordered the amd 8k3a+ from epox which has voltages up to 2.2 and 3.2 on the vdimm . I was like cool no volt modding lets see what i can get out of this xp2000+ . Thinking i was going to achieve more then my abit kr7a , i could at least get this puppy up to 1900mhz with water or at least to what i had it. Well with the same cooling i could only get 1800mhz stable at 380mhz FSB.
well i spent about 120 for the mobo and 230 for the ram xmspc3200 and decided why waste my money on this ram if i cant barely take advantage of it using and old cpu with old mobo technology.
So i ordered the abit bd-7 II and 2.26 and hopefully i can see at least 2.9 gigertz with my water cooling setup. I might go ahead and return the ram too and definitly return the mobo since i bought it last week. Also this is a plus newegg just anounced samsung DDR400
what i meant talking about old technology is that
p4fsb mobo 533mhz
AMD mobo 266mhz?
p4 has 512kb cache
amd xp has 256kb
Will this be possible to hit 3 gighertz on water?
what do you think
oh yeah im looking forward to playing quake 3
Good luck & welcome to Intel OC fun
There are lots of posts here and the intel abit forum that should give you all the info you need to hit 3gig

yeah i might do the vpinn mod with the speaker wire but im not sure if i will need it. I heard 1.75v is all you need for these chips
plus im using water with a new 24k gold waterblock when this cpu arrives it should be happy.
here is some pics of my last cpu setup and the new waterblock koolance just came out with.

Imagine this with a p4 2.26b
and my new waterblock

i hear that that cpu is able to reach 3GHz im sorry to hear that you are now an intel fan...i hope you dont give up on that 2000+ though and i also hear that people using the pc3000 get higher fsb then the people using the pc3200 so that might also help, maybe you will change your mind when the hammers come out?
not wanting any trouble just wanting to help

Yeah i used the 8k3a+ and xms corsair pc3200 and for some reason the epox board is really holding me back.
I could get 9.5*180 fsb which is like 1800mhz 380 fsb which was fast but not stable after 45min in games. I think the ram is crapping out or there isnt just enough voltage adjustments to regulate in the bios. like the vio and agp voltages are missing.
the frame rates on the 2.8 gighertz p4 on tomshardware.com destroy the xp2200+ running at 1900mhz
check it out.

Your gunna need to 4 pin wire wrap that P4 if you wanna hit 3gig or better

Well ill see what it can do first and then do the wire wrap .
cant you just go up to 1.85 in the bios anyway?
i think over 1.85 is overkill but if you say so ill go ahead and do it later on.
ill keep you posted by the end of the week
What happens without the wire wrap is you might not have enough cpu voltage to post - once the rig posts then the bios kicks in and gives you enough voltage
My chip wouldnt clock at all without the pin wrap - I tried it twice without

dude, depending on your ram, you will almost definately hit 3 gigs +, espically with water. i did it with my 2.26b and bd7II on air, all the way up to 180 fsb on like 1.71v.:D

Yup, I also ordered 2.26b and Abit IT7 yesterday from newegg and they are shipping today. I will be happy if that thing hit 2.7 ghz with my PC2100 DDR from crucial. I will have to wait for DDR400.
I have gave up using AMD for after couple of years..its just doesn't stable as intel. I had KG7 AND KR7A-RAID. I guess, i will see when my units arrived. So long AMD.......

so how do you like your koolance anyhow?? i might get one cause i like the all in one design.

koolance rocks
i get at least 9-11 c idle temps lower than the swiftec or alpha with delta 7000+ rpms

Hey hawkeye i heard you ordered like 25 processors from newegg
to try to get to 3 gighertz and you havent succeeded
do you think i will have problems?

not sure and it was only 4.

i wonder if mine will be a good stepping

yeah i got one coming on wedsnday just shipped out today so this will be chip # 5

So do you just keep RMA'ing the chips ?
im curious because if i cant get over 2.8 gighertz im going to be ****ed

The mobo is a 8k3a+ and xms3200 ram
9.5x 190fsb 380mhz ddr for 1805mhz
its fast but im returning the mobo and possibly the ram this week since im building a new p4 2.26 , BD7-II system
It looks like the ram is running good at 190 fsb but im at 3.1 vdimm . I could run it at 2.8 no problems . This setup is stable in windows but unstable after 4-6 rounds of quake at full detail and 1600*1200 res . i use quake 3 for stability testing.
Well hopefully when i get my new system this wendsday i hope to be up to 3 gighertz and running some serious MIPS

9.5x 190fsb
xp2000+ to 1805 mhz
They are definitely GOOD benches:) Like them....

Yeah i suppose you can do that or simply link the four pins together under the backside of the mobo with solder! Much easier. You can also solder dipswitches to them to give you a nice range of vcores. I soldered two wires to the back side of the mobo so all I have to do know to get the higher vcores is add a jumper to the wires and connect them. I don't really like the thought of my 1.25v chip booting with 1.675v every time if it doesn't need it! You realize that if you vid pin your chip for 1.85v default it will boot at that everytime until the bios boots and sets it to what you have in the bios set. Thus
vid pinned @ 1.85v
Bios set to 1.65v
Boots at 1.85v
After bios boots then vcore drops to 1.65v
Windows runs the chip at 1.65v
But if you have to reboot the chip will run at 1.85v for a short amount of time until the bios boots every time. I know 1.85v for 2 seconds isn't much. Well my expereince with these .13u chips is that even .5 seconds is enough to do major damage.
I killed two tualatins by booting them 33% over stock speed and ranging from 1.65v to 1.85v. I had taken the IHS'es off of the chip mind you and when I went to attach the HS I did not get it sitting right on the core and that small amount of time at 1.7v upon booting without a HS attached smoked those small IHSless cores. Yes these things are picky! I say if you can get by with 1.7v boot vcore then you should do it! I have seen to many of these PIV's dying lately from too much vcore. I would say at least 15 of them now! Every week you see another person saying their PIV is dying and not able to OC to the speeds they once were!
You have been warned.
