Run this forum? I'm about to set up a message board forum and chat service for my companies website and I was wondering on some of the specifics of the forums.

The two forums are totally different in function and target audience.

So how many servers are supplying how much bandwidth to how many members? Any advice would be great as I'm not sure if I should place the forums/chat on it's own box or not, and how much bandwidth it will use.

Thanks,
Wedo

AFAIK (skip can correct me if I am wrong) the Forums run on a dual CPU Redhat 7.2 server.

This runs:
- vBulletin software
- Redhat Linux OS
- MySQL Server
- Web server with PHP support (probably apache)

The Forums run on a Mandrake based system, running a cut down Mandrake Linux OS with apache.

If you want to run some forums you will need at minimum:
- a server running Linux with apache or windows with IIS
- PHP support
- forums software. vBulletin costs $$$ but something like phpBB2 (www.phpbb.com) is free.
- MySQL, PostgreSQL or MS Access database.

Server is a dual MP 1800s on a Tyan Thunder board. 6 18 GB hard drives in RAID 5. Currently there is one T1 line, there used to be 2.
It does run Apache, that was the cause of the last outage.
There are 3 threads that discuss the server, the software and the useage.
