I have a network with a brand new machine running XP and an older one running 98. Both are connected to my DSL router and can use the internet. I can't (or dont know how) to get file and printer sharing between the two.

any suggestions?

win98 u need to enable file sharing and then share the folder or HD. XP u just share the file or HD. Also must be on same workgroup for 98 to see XP. I think for XP it can see multiple workgroups. Do i need to through it step by step? how much do u know, how detailed to i need to be?

I can't see the work group that is on the 98 machine with the XP one. I tried changing the default workgroup to be the same name as the 98 one, but no luck.

There are folders with sharing enabled on both machines, so i don't see why they can't find eachother.

I looked in all the win XP and 98 help files i could find, and didnt get any real help. I thought the router might need to be configured to do something special but I couldnt find many options that looked like they would do any good.

I'm not sure whether this will benefit you, but I just setup my two computers today through a router using the guides at HomeNetHelp.com. Very easy to understand guides. The website is located here:
