View Full Version : What's with the hype on the NV30?

Is it really that good? I think it is getting t obe a bit overrated and people will not use it to what it was made for like the Parhelia is. The Parhelia is good card if you aren't concerned with getting the highest benchie. Who actually cares about you only get 160 fps instead of 185 fps? (fake numbers).
I'd like to hear your opinions about this also.

Theres always hype about whatever product is coming out next. Personally, I don't think NV30 will be any better than what you'd expect from a card coming out 6 months from now. After NV30 comes out there will be hype about ATI's next card, then after that about NV's next, etc. As for better FPS, the big thing now is quality, Antialiasing, Anist. filtering, etc.

Are you joking?? NVIDIA is making it!! you must be out of your mind.... asking whats the big hype? Nvidia always releases amazing chips. i garentee it will own the ATI 9700.
ive never cared about ati and i still dont, they have good value yes, but i prefer to do a better long term investment on an nvidia card, just read about those leaked specs of nv30..
512bits gpu
256mb and above
4x antialising at no speed expense!!!!
man it will be worth the muny!!!!
anyway, ill wait until a good one costs around $250... sigh might be a year from now :(

What I want to know is is that information about the ATI 9700 has been floating around for about a month, yet there is still little information about the NV30 except for its architecture. How does nVidia keep secrets so good?!!

Oh, Crystal, You did hear about the new Fire GL 1K, didn't you?

Nvidia keeps secrets so well cuz the chip hasn't even taped out yet. :D
i'm looking forward to ati's video cards more than the nvidia cards. i've noticed since i lost my voodoo 5500 to a new fangled agp slot, that the nvidia cards graphics do not look near as good as the ati cards do, or as good as my old vodoo card for that matter.
so since the ati's cards are going to be just as speedy as nvidia's, will have better quality graphics, and more than likely will be cheaper... i'm going with ati this next time.
i don't know if the ti 4200's have as high an image quality as the ti 4600's but mine sure doesn't look as good as my buddy's 8500le.
so.......
excuse me but you speak just like an old school 3dfx fan...
First of all the image quality doesnt vary from ti4200 to ti4600 a bit, its just the perfomance that is better and nvidia still has still competitive image quality against parhelia and busts its @r$e in performance. You say ati is going to be better?? yeah until nv30 comes out and the price, well my own experience tells me ill be more satisfied with a long term investment and right now ti4200 is the best

To me, the NV30, Parhelia, Radeon 9700, and the Creative Labs vid cards are significant, in the fact that they are a step ahead of the previous generation, not a step forward.(Meaning die shrink, twice AGP bandwidth, fatter GPU and Memory bus). Like the step from 128 bit GPUs and 64 bit memory to 256 GPUs and 128 bit memory. NV30, R300, P10, are better than the last generation, period. Why you all get excited over rumors and other things astound me sometimes. Words of wisdom, let it be, LET IT BE! OK, whos up next to rant? http://pages.sbcglobal.net/adunlap/crazy.gif

I'm gonna post my two cents here. I am currently using an original GF3. It is plenty fast for me, in fact, so fast I use 4x anti-aliasing and 2x aniostropic filtering in Q3, UT, HL, War3, MOHAA, etc. My card still runs at a decent speed, so I'm in no rush to upgrade my vid card.
What I'm really looking forward to in the near future is a card with lots of features. Something with high quality video in and video out. Something with hardware DVD decoding, or other nifty little things that I'd find handy. This is why I'll probably end up buying an ATI All-in-Wonder 9700 (if they'll ever actually make one -- this is just wishful thinking :)) when the prices of these cards come down.
I dont care anymore about speed, as there just isn't anything out right now to justify the speed. I'm in it for the features.
I see no article by Ed discounting all the NV30 hype :(......
dude thats impossible ;) :D

lol CM, personally yes I will buy either the NV30 or the ATI, but the only reason I am buying the card is Doom3. Everything else I play can run on a TNT card lol ;(

it is supposed to be able to do 1600x1200 w/4xAA and 8xAnios in ALL games. that friggin rules! (of course you will need a good cpu to go with it but who in these forums doesnt have one?)
me, im still in my crappy old p3 @ 800MHz (100Mhz Bus) and i still have a geforce3 botught for $320 (Yeah, i know i was stupid, but now i've learned the lesson, wont buy anything more than $250 ever). I just cant get rid of this friggin computer to buy my new stuff, i have my setup almost complete but not the $ :(
And hey emericana, wasnt nv30 supposed to be 90% CPU independant? That sounds to me that you wont notice much of a difference in quality from a p4 1.8 to a oced p43 ghz, but only a few fps higher, am i wrong???
Emericana

yes it is supposed to be 80% cpu independent. any Athlon XP or P4 should get around the same results with that GPU (any diff wouldnt be noticeable unless you oc the gpu) but you will notice a diifference using it on a p3 800 over a Athlon XP or P4
so you mean its worth the buy even on my old ass p3 system??

no other way around it will take major advantage of new features in the newer boards like agp 8x etc.
if you have the right features in the board you will not need a super fast cpu. For example if you get a Nforce 2 board with the nv30 (what i'm planning on doing) you could use a XP1500@stock and the thing would still fly just as much as a 2200@2ghz
but hey, do you know if there are any plans of agp 8x intel boards yet???

Wait till it's close to being released. I dunno how long you have been here but Ed beats on *every* videocard.
I mean, someone has to take a perspective from reality.

You say ati is going to be better?? yeah until nv30 comes out and the price, well my own experience tells me ill be more satisfied with a long term investment and right now ti4200 is the best well see, that's what i did (see signature below). i bought the ti 4200 and i can oc it to run almost as fast as a 4600. i can keep it oc'd to run faster than a 4400. but i'm tellin ya' the image quality compared to my friends ati card just blows! i mean, it just does. *shrugs*
Q. is my ti4200 faster than an ati 8500le?
A. yes much fatser.
Q. do ati 8500 cards have better quality level of graphics than the nvidia ti 4200, 4400, 4600 cards?
A. yes they do.
Q. will the ati 9700 card's blow the doors off of the 4600's in terms of speed as well as visual quality?
A. yes they will.
Q. will the ati 9700's cost a helluva lot more than the already way to expensive nvidia ti 4600's?
A. ...ohhhhhh! the expensive pain of the current best high end videocards!!!
Q. will the nv30 look as good visually as the ati 9700??
A. AHHHH! it might not, but the ati card is gonna be smokin' fast and have that awesome ati visual atvantage as well.
sooo....
i am now saving money as of 2 weeks ago.

The NV30 hype is not all that evident because it is MONTHS away from fruition whereas there are already reviews of the 9700 out there, you could get a 9700 by the end of August while youd be happy to get an NV30 at christmas....

That's funny, I remember people attacking the R300 and saying it is pointless since no one plays at those settings and resolution, hrm....
Why do people believe that the NV30 will include some sort of SLI or multi-GPU design. The NV30 itself will be expensive so could you imagine a multi-GPU version of the dang thing? We're talking $600+ (which evidently was the original asking price of the Voodoo5 6000). The NV30 will be a card where there will be multiple chips that handle different things and I believe there will be only 1-2 extra chips to handle the cinema thingy and something else, but I dont believe it will be multi-GPU.

Heh heh...
=)
hey dark your a major spammer :D
but anyway thats true, nobody plays everygame at 1600x1200 for more than 2 months after buying a new computer supposed to be the most kickass atm. On the other hand 1280x960 is the very best resolution playable, but again theres no point of 4x antialising at this point.
I do believe ATIs quality will be much better than nVIDIAs but anyway nvidia has good quality still IMO, so i rather buy an nvidia card with better performance and video quality and use it for 3 years than using an ATI at top quality for only 1 year...

hmm... why wouldnt anyone want to do that unless their monitor does not support that high a resolution?
that is the best graphics possible (unless your monitor supports even HIGHER) so who wouldnt wanna play it that way?
