Ok, I was just wondering how many of you Volcano 7 users have cut off that sensor so your fan will run at full speed and how you can stand all that noise! Anyhow, I just did mine and I like the fact that it's running faster because it is a bit cooler, but the only problem of course is the noise. Also another thing, are your screws beginning to get stripped? Because I have taken the fan off a couple of times to blow all the dust out and then again just now to cut the sensor thing off and one screw is completely stripped and the others are beginning to get that way. Pretty soon, the fan won't even stay on there. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Should I get some thicker screws? Can this be contributing to the noise factor?

Thanks in advance.

By the way, here are the specs...
Old fan speed: @3700RPM, 44-46C
New fan speed: 4821/4753RPM, 38-40C

i dont know too many people that take off their sensor. the skrews and heatsink do get a little bit worn out if you remove them alot. what i would do is get a high power duster and just blow the dust off with the fan still attached. :D

i have the volcanoe7, and i have the sensor taken off, running at full speed. as for the noise, i don't mind it.

the fan screws on mine are not stripped, but i don't tighten them until they can't go any farther, i just tighten them until i get some resitstance.

i just took the fan off the V7 and replaced it with a whisper quiet Panaflo .25amp 80mm

only lost 1c and its very quiet

Awesome. I was also thinking about just replacing the fan, but I didn't know exactly what kind to get. Thanks for the suggestion. Where did you get that fan? And how do I know what fans are for heatsinks?

leave the fan and put in a 10k pot instead of the thermistor

Rather than take the sensor off, I took off the fan assembly, and redirected the sensor so it now sits in direct contact with the heat sink fins. That way, it runs faster if it has to, but it isn't going full out all of the time.

use a pot - you can lower the fan speed further than stock to reduce noise if it happens to be a cool day.

whats better? running at 3500rpm for 10mins to cool it down or 4900 for 2 mins?

and it fully manually adjustable with a pot
