ok if i have a Gigabyte 8irx and it supports up to 2.4Ghz Processor. if i buy a 1.6a can i change the Muiltiplier on it even though its a Production Chip? my mother board has a soft bios so im curious. cause i can OC the FSB but about i have a Ratio option will i still be able to change that? 16 = 1.6Ghz 17=1.7Ghz ...etc.
and isnt a 1.6a OC FSB 133 = 2.4Ghz?
Thanx Everyone im about to buy one so ill see what you say.

no u cant change multipleir, 1.6@133fsb is 2128 mhz, simple math. to get 2.4 ghz u will need 2400/16 which is 150 fsb exactly.

What is the deal? This question gets asked everyday now. Intel CPUs have locked multipliers. Changing the BIOS setting does nothing... and no there ain't anyway to unlock it.

One would think then that you would have some idea how the multiplier is locked then......
But it is possible, 1 way around it is known, all you need is your very own fab, and diagnostic tools that let you rewire a CPU after it has been made....
As we know that the muliplier is set in the DIE of the CPU.
IS it worth $2 Billion to (for FAB) to unlock your CPU, NO.
So for all practicle purposes, you can not unlock your CPU.

just 2 billion eh? I'll get started on the fab. First 1,000 customers get unlocking half price.;)
