I was working with windows xp professional and suddenly my comp turned off. When I restarted it told me that I cant log on as the name that I was using before the shut down. After this, it created a temp name for me. When I got in, I created another account and copied all the files from documents and settings/my user name folder to my new one. After I logged on as my new one, I wanted to delete all the old files from the previous name that didn'y work. I deleted the name and windows asked me if I wanted to delete all the files associated with that name and I clicked yes. After a reboot I found out that the name was deleted but all the files and the root folder of the old name were still there. I dried to delete the folder or even open it but windows says I dont have access. This is a problem because the folder contains 30 gigs of files I dont need. Please help me with this. Even the smallest thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.
that's most likely because the other user you were using was Administrator, and now you're on a different user which is not set as an admistrator. You can only set a user as an administrator by using the administrator. What is the error msg it gives you when you try to logon using administrator?

I am an administrator, all it says when i try to open or delete the folder is the path of the folder and "access denired"
i don't think you can delete the actual's administrator user accounts files unless your logged onto the actual username Administrator.
You can try this
if you are loged in as admin, r click on your c drive\properties and go to the securties tab and click on or add administrator. Then highlight(click on ) administrator,go to advanced\owner, highlight administrator and click\select the replace owners on subcontainers and objects box. dont worry about the pagefile and then try and see if you can delet what you need

I dont have the securities tab
if you're using fat32 you can try booting to dos with a 98 bootdisk and use deltree to clear the directory out. hope this helps
yea sorry your using fat, like tig says try booting to dos. you could also try booting to your recovery console(boot to 2kCD, hit F10 after drivers load and when the welcome to setup screen comes on up.
And type help and look at some of the commands like delete. If you have a basic knowledge of DOS you can get to it.
You can also try typing "cmd" into your run box and try to delete it from there.
Good luck
he msged me last night on aol instant messenger. He's using ntfs. I tought him how to boot into dos with an ntfs file system using something called ntfsdos. So he should have it all fixed.
