I found a peltier for like $23 on ebay. The description is as follows:
85w high grade peltier module for general use or for use for cooling down CPUs. Please don't think that you can add a 85w peltier to 99% of the heatsinks on the market. This is the right wattage to use for water cooling or 2 fan heatsink projects etc. This unit uses about 8.5amp@12V so is good with 300w + power supplies. Brand new high quality with ARM PC connector added and FREE copper coldplate and thermal grease.
Would this be a good buy if I wasn't going with the watercooling option? Also where is a good place to buy a peltier and what are the problems (if any) with peltiers?
any advice is appreciated
thanks?
Try www.coldcpu.com they have lower rated peltiers that you could prolly use aircooling with. Good luck!!

You can see also http://www.leufkentechnologies.com/
He got spare parts or fully integrated/insulated read to install peltier and air/water coolers. I bought my pelt from there...

What kind of chip are you looking to cool?

I have a 700e on a CUSL2-C. It currently runs at 900 @ 1.7 v with stock heatsink and fan. I can get into windows at 933 @1.8v but after 10 minutes in Quake2 it performs and illegal Operation. When quake crashes the temp is around 50° C.
I just ordered a Global Win FOP 38. And I was hoping this will do the trick, but if not then I want to try a peltier, that's why I asked the earlier question.
Hope this helps Mr_Goat

Well my trusty calculator here tells me that a P3 700 @931 (133FSB) w/ a 1.8 core voltage is putting out 36.6 Watts of heat...the FOP38 can handle that no problem

By the way any peltier above the 55W mark is too much power for a HSF to dissipate

Thanks Mr_Goat
I'll see how well my FOP works before Jump to any extreme's then

Well I got my FOP38. My PIII 700e is at 933(938 according to cpuid)@1.8v. It is so far rock solid with the temp never going over 42c. It runs idle at about 32c. What's weird though, is that no matter what I do i can't get the Machine to even post at anything higher at any voltage.
how did you calculate the power (wattage)?
and what pelt can an alpha hs handle? i'm thinking about adding a pelt between the cpu and the alpha (although it is not really necessary), but i'm not sure what should i go with. the pelt i had before (pelt + really small heatsink + fan, from vantec) sucked, and i just thew it away, so i'm trying to be careful now.
thanks.
