i would say it's a waste of money unless you can get the parts really cheap.

I don't think you should do that. Most people who buy computers in the classifieds of a paper do not want to pay alot and won't. Build a basic system and make it fold!:D

Depending on where and how you sell it you could profit, but not by much. If you search around on www.pricewatch.com and get low low prices, then sell it right away you might be able to pull it off. Just say, "It's brand new and a client of my custom-build PC shop backed out of a deal, and I'm stuck with this PC. I'll offer it at a super low price just to cut my losses." Then offer it for $100-200 more than you paid.

Another trick is to offer it at a price you don't expect to get, then when someone tries to haggle with you about the price then 'cave-in' and lower it to what you really wanted in the first place.

Heh, maybe I should get into the used car business.

don't, it's not all it's cracked up to be. on the other hand, i did hook all my friends up with decent cars pretty cheap :D

so yeah, the only way you could pull it off is to sell it right away. otherwise the hardware prices will drop and you wouldn't be able to sell it without taking a huge loss.

well if this is ur first PC, i hardly suggest selling it. U need to be a professional to sell PCs. and make a decent profit. If the customer has a problem are u prepared to eat the cost of repairs? will u give it any kind of warrantee? Can u handle RMAs if needed? just some things to think of when selling PCs. I wouldnt start selling untill i knew i made good enough PCs that wont have problems;)

I have been doing this for a while and I would not do it unless you have a buyer already lined up. You should not make something hoping you can sell it. You should make it knowing you can sell it.

Get this:
Biostar M7VIG
Duron 1.2
40 GB HDD. Don't waste your money on a 20. Diminishing returns has the 40 as a MUCH better deal.
256 MG of some RAM...Kingston maybe
Case, Floppy, keyboard etc.

You now have a decent rig for under $300.
Oh...the Biostar has 32 MB video and AC 97 sound integrated.

This would do you real well as a first build. Once you get used to doing it, you can move on to better parts.

Make sure you get with use when you start to build if you have any doubt about doing anythin.

oh yeah....FOLD!
