well, i finally got my case yesterday, so i decided to piece my new computer together...

put everything in so fast, that i forgot to just test the cpu, video card, and the ram alone...

so, everything is in, and i turn the thing on...nothing...no post, no nothing...

i take out my video card, put it in my old computer, nothing...

take out my old videocard, put it in my new computer, nothing...

see the problem i have? luckily i know someone who works with the big corporate servers for compaq (no, he's really good...not like best buy salesman)...he's taking it in the office (!) today to see what works/what doesnt...

either way, it'll be ok, because i have directron down the street (not literally, but like 20 minutes away)

This is sad for me to hear. :eh?: I was hoping to see how fast that XP can go.

I hope that the problem is with a part other than your cpu and that none of the bridges got connected when you put tape over them... An alarm went off in my head when you first mentioned that you'd taped up the unlock to protect it. Tape has always messed up unlocks for me. If this has occurred, then removing/redoing the unlock will probably fix the problem. There was a small scratch in the ceramic by the 4th bridge and if paint has come into contact with the exposed copper, it would ground one of the bridges. This wouldn't fry the chip, only make it not post.

Most of the time it is a loose fit of the video card or the ram. I'd try that right away and double check all the wiring. Then start testing individual parts to find the culprit. Hope you get it up to speed soon, Peter.

thanks for your concern...

the guy from compaq is coming over tonight and will tell me what's up...if he cant figure it out (i dont forsee that happening), i'll try taking off the tape and re-unlocking it...

hopefully i havent fried anything (i dont think i did), and i hope the video card isnt broken either (it came with the stock fan adapter [the 2 pin one]UNsoldered...i could just pull the whole thing out of the card...maybe that's the problem...)

anyway, i'll know more tonight and let y'all know...either way, i think i should have my computer up and running by monday...

thanks guys!
