ASUS and PIII

Can a 1GHz PIII be made to run in an ASUS P2B-DS motherboard even though the M/B spec says that PIII 600 is the max?

I'd say: Yes! No matter what Revision your Board is it should be running the p3 1000e (100mhz bus) without any problems. Or wait, is this the Dual CPU & SCSI Board here, then I'm completley unsure, whether it works or not ! Sorry...

I'm not entirely sure the P2B series can handle Coppermine CPU's, I don't think it can. The maximum it can handle is the Katmal PIII 600, with the 512k L2 cache. Check Asus' site for BIOS updates, but I don't think it'll work.

Only problem that might occur, which isn't really a problem, is false speed reading during POST.

OK, I didn't know about that article. All I know is that slotket or not, my P2B-B didn't like Coppermines at all. BUT- this looks like it could work (I never updated the BIOS). Just make sure you have slotkets that can support dual CPU's.

I don't know if you already have a slocket, but if you do you might try a mod first (Have a look Here (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=67417&perpage=30&pagenumber=1)).

Oh and btw my P2B didn't like CUmine's either, maybe I did something wrong, probably the voltage setting on the slocket...guess we'll never know I sold the MOBO:( ...or maybe I can get it back:) I'll try the mod for tualatins on my P3V4X first, and then I'll take the MOBO+slocket and CPU to my friend, If it works on the P2B I'll ask him if he will trade the MOBO (I'm sure he will, he isn't an OC'er and it would be alot easier for him to get a generic slocket and a P3)...and I'm gonna trade my Promise Ultra100 for my old Promise Ultra66 (Mod. to a Raid card), as he's never gonna use raid.

Yes, but that can only be done on the old Ultra100 cards AFAIK.
