View Full Version : How far can a Northwood 2.53GHz go?

Hi,
I would appreciate if someone could tell me how high(STABLE) can a Northwood 2.53GHz go if cooled just by regular waterblock (no pelt) with let's say 30C water temp.
How about with a single 226W pelt?
Thank you!
(EDIT: After September 1 2.53GHz will sell arround $250 - not cheap but affordable)

The higher multiplier Northwoods don't seem to o/c as well as the lower, I'd recommend going with a 2.4b instead of a 2.53. With watercooling you should at least hit 3 GHz with a 2.4b, but you could go higher, deffinatly higher if you used a pelt.

I am looking at this (http://freespace.virgin.net/m.warner/CPUPricesIntel.htm) page. The price will be arround $250 in a month. Of course that is the price for a batch of a 1000 from Intel. I do not know how much more would a single one be.
A friend of mine has one, he actually built his PC last week, and guess what? .. he's stuck @ 3ghz! LOL! ..

Could it be that the 2.53GHz P4 uses the new bus - 533MHz and that makes it difficult to overclock?

that just confirms the fact that the cores are all virtually identical in capability. i have two northwoods, a 2.26b and a 1.8a. guess what? they're both running at about 2.9ghz stable on air! and both are capable of 3ghz, but i've throttled back to keep my voltages a little lower.

2.26 is also part of the 533 family.. the little baby among them all :D

okay dude! i hate being called a coward. i'm ramping up the voltage and the oc on both as we speak. 3.017ghz for the 2.26 and 2.91 ghz for the 1.8 BOTH ON AIR!:D
actually, i haven't heard from anyone i actually know who's fried one yet. maybe i'll be the first! let's roll!:burn:

in theory with your 1.8a on air could I get my 1.6A on water too 3Ghz??
(wish full thinking I'm sure, but if the answer is yes I'm not getting a new fan this week I'm getting water LOL)

i knew that pac, but all kidding aside a cranked things up a little and i'm doing marginally better and still not too bad with the volts on either machine. the 2.26 is running at 3ghz stable and the 1.8 is running at 2.89 stable.
:p

Well that seems to be the general concensus...that the NW core pretty much maxes out around 3GHz.
For now, that is. :)

yes, it is very possible that you could.;)

yeah with water i'm sure probly 25-50% of 1.6a's could hit 3ghz. you'd be sending about 1.85-1.9v and it would burn out fairly quick but you could get it there.
