I need a quick responce on this one, I think I'm finally gona get a chip this weakend. I'm going to a local store and am going to hand pick a chip.

I need to know what the best speppings are to look for, can anyone recall the steppings that have hit 2Ghz with extream cooling! I don't dream on that nor will have extream cooling but I would like to know. From my understanding, the AGOIA-Y's or AROIA-Y's are the best, enfensis on the AGOIA. on the other hand, I've also heard that Y isn't anything speacial also.

Anyway, am I right to go for an AGOIA-Y?

yes, AGOIA-Y and that Y means more then you think. all the AGOIA's a decent overclockers but the Y chips tend to be the best.

Oops, I almost forgot to ask weather I should grab the 1600+ model or get the highest model with that stepping. I hear the higher will go further with default voltage.

EDIT: Also, how would I tell what weak it is?

the 4 digits after the stepping is the week of the chip made.
For example, AGOIA0213 means that the chip is made in the 13th week of year 2002
And yes, AGOIA won't let you down, even if you can't hit 1900MHz or even 1800MHz, with a 1700MHz OC, your chip still OCed 300MHz, from the default 1400MHz!!!

Sounds very cool, I'm gona have FUN!!! Thanks for all the quick replies at midnight!

AROIA-Y baby!!! One of the best steppings around if you ask me, although you cant go wrong with a AGOIA-Y either.

Forgot to mention that if you dont want heat, i run mine at stock speed but at 1.6v. Pretty sweet if you ask me. Im just waiting to replace that SK6 with something better to overclock it. Some ram wont hurt my setup either.

its not AGOIA Y. my AGOIA Y wont do 1800

it is AGOIA it doesnt matter if you get a 4, 9, K, or Y they all are great oc'ers and it is really luck of the draw between wheter you get one that will do 2ghz or only 1700mhz.

i have not seen a single AGOIA that will NOT do 1700

i have an AROIA 9 that does 1700+ but i run it at 1500mhz at only 1.55v who says these things run hot? :eh?:

Emericana

yeah the lower speed atlons can be highly undervolted which is really cool if you dont overclock much

well now im at 1600mhz 1.65v still only 65 watts, stock speed and voltage would be 64 watts not bad for a 200mhz overclock only 1 watt extra output

Try prime95 for a couple of hours to see if its really stable. It might look and feel stable but torture it a bit and i bet you 10$ it fails.

Sounds to good to be true to me also, but if so... Sounds great!

I'm getting it tomarow :D:D:D:D (too busy today!)
So let me make shure I got everything right...

1) Get the best posible AGOIA-Y model. (1800+ over 1600+)
2) Get the most recent week. (like week 50 over week 40)

My AGOIA K 0212 has gone as high as 1870MHz.

So don't snub it if you find one.

Alright... so I just auta aim for the most recent AGOIA's

is 1.73 to low for a 1640mhz o/c?

bigfoot
08-04-02, 03:02 PM
If you can get that, thats good, if it's unstable, then 1.74 is to low. Lower VCore (but stable) is always good.

My 1600 AGOIA "Y" runs stable at 1.9, runs stable at 1.95 too but P95 don't like it that way!

Now that it's a week after i first thought i'd get my procesor, I got it today, I was seriously afraid that my local store would be out of them, but guess what, all thay had was AGOIA-Y's :D

well... I got a week 13 after all... Here's my complete stepping:

AX1600MDT3C
AGOIA0213SPQW
Y8049080840

Now all I need is a nForce2 mobo and some C2 DDR400 Mem!

That's going to be one killer rig!

nForce2 with two sticks of CL2 DDR400! (Corsair XMS)

Ooo ooo ooo, add water cooling also!

screw the h20 go straight to the LN2 with that $30,000 container you need to buy that allows the stuff to be transfered without it freezing everything!

that would be the ultimate cooling! you would prolly need like 10feet high neoprene to seal it from condensation!

I just bought an AGOIA-9 and it can only do 161 x 10.5 @ 2.15 V on an Epox 8KHA+ with Voltmod. I'm disappointed !

Very sorry to hear that man... I can't believe that I wont know how good my processor is untill after my 30 day return policy is expired! If it sux, i can't do much about it... you might still be able to return yours if you JUST got it...

my xp 1600 is running at 1.8 ghz right now (10.5 x 172) but i dont want to go any higher, till i get a better fan, because it will top out around 55 C

what about my agoga-y. what do you guys predict for this?

bigfoot
08-26-02, 11:17 PM
sorry james...

Well since agoga was the most recent (but the last) stepping for those pally cores, and since it's a y stepping, I believe it sould still be a great chip, since it's newer, it certnly should be a lot wors that the Agoia's.

1700mhz 1800 if you are lucky.

AGOIA Y is the best and the only steeping that I have seen over 2ghz. The AROIA Y is the next best pick. Other than that the AGOIA 4, 9, k, are all good choice. I have an AGOIA 4 that can do 1950mhz with 2.2v and water.

i dont see aroia Being better than a Agoia i might be wrong but I love my Agoia Y

and youre agogo Y is one of the best 2 altho they are pretty old im not positve on what you would get for and o/c since i have never had one before But when people say you cant YOU CAN :) look at me hehe

Actually a few months back I had an AGOGA 1700+ that did 1750 MHz stable. Probably not typical... and I would sooner go Intel than buy an AGOGA chip and that says a lot.

james.miller
08-27-02, 04:59 PM
i can only try. it does do 1640 at 1.73volts which i know doesnt mean jack execpt that it uses a low voltage at that speed.but at least thats something, isnt it?

bigfoot
08-27-02, 09:49 PM
If it was a 1600+ and thats a 240Mhz increas, then thats pretty good for starters.
