View Full Version : Its all gone a bit wrong

I have done a search on this and came up with nothing so far so forgive me if I am asking an old question.
I have tried to unlock my XP 1.9 chip and had little success and in doing so I have "gone beneath" the surface of the "organic" chip material around the L1 bridges. Only in one or two places. Very small area of the underlying copper plate/foil/sheet exposed.
Now, knowing that all futrue unlocks are about as out of the question as you can get (as I cannot get a "clean" connection between bridges).
In my attempts to overclock I must have "corrupted" some system files as my system would only boot so often and needed a reinstall of the OS etc.
Since the reinstallation i have had the following problem.
I have noticed that my system can be running a game and will crash out of it, no error message, just goes to desktop. This is a game that has previously run great. I have this problem with two games (the only two I have installed at the mo JKII and Operation Flashpoint)
I have all the timings , cpu speed etc set at normal now.
Sometimes when it crashes out of a game I get an "the application "whatever" has encountered and error and need to be closed" and a very bleached out looking desktop.
Now I suspect that I have not truly damaged the chip cos it runs the OS and the program ok, it would either work or it wouldnt right?.
I am also using drivers that have proved stable (29.42s) on GF4 4400
Please can someone help.
Cheers.

umm thats not system curruption that means you need to raise the vcore cause you overclocked too high for the default vcore.

put your vcore on 1.85v assuming you have somewhat decent cooling, up the FSB 2mhz (prolly starting at 140fsb) and run prime 95 (get it at www.aoafiles.com) for 12 hours each time. Then you will see how high you can go.

Cheers for the reply.
It is at its default voltage of 1.75 v at the moment as it is at its factory settings (133/33 x 12 multi).
I was under the impression that you only needed to up the v-core when you wanted to increase the difference in positive and negative elemts of the mhz cycle?
Does anybody else think it could be the V core? If the V core is too low will the system drop out of only the application or should the whole thing crash out?
I wish I had never tried to unlock my chip now:confused:

it definetly 100% is the vcore i had a 1900+ and could only goto 138FSB w/ 1.75v and could goto 145FSB w/ 1.85v

Good God Man !! Your on the ball arent you?!:)

I am not for a second doubting what you say its just that the rig ran fine with the v core at what is is now for months.
Wondered if it was something else is all

Does anybody think the chip is knackered?

Thankyou all so much for your help, you guys are

It was a faulty stick of ram.Tried one stick booted ok, tried the other (in the same slot) no boot.

That is such a relief!!

Now will they take it back.........
