I plan on purchasing a new mother board, athlon mp,and ram.Ive got everything worked out except the cpu.I don't feel like dealing with the whole trench thing with the xp(call me lazy)but I do want to over clock. What I need to know is will the Gigabyte GA-7VRXP have any problems detecting the athlon mp?

Is your mobo dual?

The Gigabyte is a motherboard made for only a single cpu, not dual. MPs are made for dual systems (2x CPU's), and they provide the full support for that. Look into the Athlon XP 1600+, because it's not worth it to dish out 60.00+ dollars for an MP. IT comes factory unlocked + SMP capable, but there's no reason to really unlock the 1600+.

I think what he's getting at is that Athlon MP's are factory unlocked. So, he doesn't have to do the whole unlocking process. I'm sure the board will be fine.

Oops.... nm that, just realized that Yodums answered it.

unless you buy a cheap board like gigabyte that might not do over 150fsb and you want to increase the multiplier to overclock. Or you can't afford good memory.

Money shouldnt be a problem but what board would you recomend? If the Gigabyte can only hit 150mhz I would not be happy.I plan on using CORSAIR MEMORY XMS 3200PT 512Mb.

Well Ive changed my mind.I'm going to hold tight and wait to see what next month brings in terms of hardware.
