I'm going to guess that is because the SETI@Home server was down. It is going down all the time. The got bigger pipes but it is still not enough. You can check it's status here http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/sstatus.html

and if you are not using the CLC read this stick thread
http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=62194

Also before I forget welcome aboard!

usually that message happened when Berkeley's server having problem. just try again later. once u've get it setup. it will be a good idea to use SETIDriver cache a few WUs for u (at least 3-5days worth), and use one of our team's public SETIQueue.

welcome to the team!!! ;)

There's a thread 2 above this one with detailed instructions on how to install a nice clc version of SETI@home. Using the clc will increase your daily WU output by 50% to 100%. Check it out! ;)

Here's the thread (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=62194)

I tried followed the instructions but with step 13 it goes wrong, (refer to image file), and the server was up and running, (on berkeley site)

Restart your client and try again...I just sent a WU so it should be up right now.

Do you have any sort of firewall blocking it? You might need to disable XPs build in filewall.

Sounds like you have a local network configuration problem. Try disabling the firewall in XP.

The XP firewall is disabled, and Norton personal firewall is also disabled and it still doesn't work:(

Daydreamer,

The server status page says the server is up, but the Seti home page says the connection to the outside world has "disappeared". So, the problem is on their end, not yours.
