View Full Version : booted newly built pc - operating system wont load?

Hey,

i have just managed to build a pc. I have set up the BIOS etc etc, it has asked for a boot cd - so i need a floppy and a cd i think - i have tried my xp ones and my previous tiny restore pack ones but nothing has worked, what can i do - do i need to buy an operating system

i have an operating system on one of my drives but when u try and boot from that it doesnt work - there is some error so i am trying to format my new 60gb one?

please help!

well 1st, go delete your partitions, and re-partition it in your new system, and then format it.

To repartition, use a win98 bootdisk (if your older drive was NOT NTFS), delete your partion(s), and then go back into dos, and type format c: /s. To partition, type fdisk whil you're in dos, and follow the instructions.

ok, but am i meant to have a floppy disk with my windows 98 cd?

all that is, is a crappy startup disk. I don't even know whyt hey included that. It's not the same as creating a startup disk inside win98 itself. It doesn't even include format.com. HEH.

yeah that floppy makes me really inexplicably angry. I took my old one and smashed the christ out of it before finally setting it ablaze with gasoline.
