OK, I've seen stuff like that before, and I've always wanted to do it. Problem is being carless and living in downtown San Francisco leaves me with some problems. I'm near hundreds of designer clothes stores, but not many places that would have that metal mesh. Any suggestions as to a possible substitue? Metal or plastic, I don't care. As long as it's not TOO ghetto, I'll be up for it.

There ARE hardware stores around here, but they're more paint, tools, and plumbing type places, not construction and materials like a Home Depot. Know something they might have?

Talk to an autobody shop and find out where they buy sheet metal from. If there is a place in your area that sells sheet steel and aluminum, there are bood bets that they have in stock or can get there hands on that type of steel mesh.

Another thing to check is the phone book for metal suppliers or maybe even junkyards in your area in the phone book

That's a good idea but how would giving the PSU more cooling cool down the case? Does it give more power?

You might have noticed that in the howto, the psu fan was upgraded and that would definately increase cooling of the psu components and most likely the rest of the case. It would not increase the power output of the psu at all, but could extend the life of it.

Man guys. Downtown S.F. Silicon valley, 'prettiest city in North America', yuppie land, napa valley wine, financial capitol of the west coast. I don't have a car. The nearest home depo is in Daly City or Colma, I forget (i.e. way too far).

I wish I could get to home depot (and away from S.F., but that's a whole nother story...). Back home when I had a car I'd be there all the time getting random crap, I didn't even mod then. I just like playing with tools and all that, building things.

Anyways, what do you think would work besides the mesh? I'm tempted to just pull the top off and let it be, but I don't want any wires flying in there or anything. I need a mesh substitute.

Every had a barbacue???

You will notice that a lot of barbacues use this mess as the grill that they cook on (at least in South Africa they do)

Maybe try a barbacue store and see if extra grills can be purchased??

It's worth a shot. I'm gonna wander around the hardware store tomorrow and see what they got, but it's no Home Depot... Mostly simple stuff, no band saws or anything. Any more suggestions as to what I might wanna look for?

I would gladly trade places with you. I love S.F. You don't like it? Why not?

Anyway, yeah, there is a Home Depot out a bit, but there is plenty of hardware and building supply in the city, just do a search on Citysearch. Here is a search for "home centers" within 1 mile of Union Square...

Plenty of other hardware stores also:

Figuring its in the midst of Yuppieland, look for gardening shops. Several stock various types of metal mesh fencing, which you might be able to get in small enough sizes for your purpose.

Yeah, I've checked alot of the hardware stores around here, they're OK, but no Home Depot. I'm about to go to this one place, it's a decent size, maybe they'll have something.

As for why I don't like S.F.? Well, I grew up in Chicago and frankly this city is all image. Believe it or not tourism, not tech, is the biggest industry in S.F. Guess what that means? Great fun for a week, but not for a year. This city sucks. Chi has more soul in one square block than this whole city. I havn't met anyone who lived here for more than like five years yet, most people are new here, then they get sick of the outraegous rents and tourists and leave. I was paying $1450 a month for a ONE BEDROOM a couple monts ago, now I got a deal at $1300. For alot of people that's a home morgage (sp?).

This city is all about yuppies. People who don't got money but wanna act like they do. They drive beamers, wear Gucci, and go wine tasting in Napa Valley. Cuz they're 'sophisticated'. Heh, deez nutz. I'd like to see their savings and credit card bills, these cats are probably in crazy debt.

Then you got the culture. OK, it's progressive sorta kinda, but not all that different from anywhere else on earth. What, since they let bums sleep everywhere and allow a protest every now and then this is the cultural center of the US? Heh, **** that. The only culture here is yuppie culture.

Then there's the Haight and Ashbury area, home of the hippies! Yeah, home of the exploitation of hippie culture. There are three shops on Haight, the 'hippie' shop that sells bongs, incence and tie die, the 'vintage' shop, i.e. overpriced salvation army, and the 'record' shop, these aren't as bad.

At first I though maybe it was just me, but I've been living here a year now with my girlfriend (also from Chicago) and both of us can't wait to leave. You'd think within a year we'd get past the tourism and into the heart of the city right? Well, the problem is there's not much under the surface! What you see is what you get. Over and over and over again...

Man, Chicago is like the most underrated city on Earth. It's like New York, only less congested. People always imagine Chi as some industrial wasteland or something, it's not like that at all.

I guess there are worse places to be, it's not THAT bad, but it's not that good either. I'm just saying that it greatly failed to live up to my expectations, and I'm not alone on this.

Heh, this is great, plus i have an Extra PSU Laying around, and its Brand new too. I bought It not to long ago, then i upgraded my Mobo, and needed a bigger case which came with a PSU. So I can work on the extra one, replace it, and bam. And if i screw up, i still have the one that i'm using now.

You talked a lot of crap about the city in which I was born and raised. I dont think its the best city either. But its home. I guess you havent had the chance to really settle in but then again thats all a matter of preference. Never lived downtown though. Do you live in a condo?

If you get a chance go out to ACE hardware there not that bad of a place. I know of a few places that is not home depot in the city.
Have you ever been to TAP plastics I just spotted it tonight (on the end of VanNEss). Didnt have a chance to go in though.

Ironically, I remember being in S.F. a few years ago when I was reading whatever the big alternative weekly is in S.F., and they had an article which was very negative toward Home Depot, and their attempts to build one somewhere there. It talked about how they put smaller hardware stores, etc., out of business, kind of like a Walmart of hardware.

It got me thinking. I don't shop at that moster Home Depot for that very reason. I have now found out the Home Depot will not sell to the Federal Government because they do not want to be subject to anti-discrimination laws.

Anyway, as was stated, there are other, better choices than home depot there anyway.

Ok this thread is weird... SF bashing and then HD bashing LMAO, Lemme add Boston to the list of tourist towns...

Ok why not try some case fan grills? You can probably use one on the bottom and 2 on each side. That should help get the temps down and make life easy for you as many online etailers sell grills.

Someone mentioned chicken wire and I was actually thinking of that... I didn't get a chance to get to the store yesterday but I'm gonna go today and see if they got that. And yeah, the ACE's are nice out here, and while Home Depot is a mega-corporation at least they have EVERYTHING. Sure, they can undercut competitors and all that but that's what drives capitolism! As long as they aren't shady or ruthless about it then I'm not really againt them (but maybe they are and I just don't know about it).

trdsw20, I've been here a year now. I think I'm past settling in. Now it's your hometown and all, but it's not like I wanna burn the city to the ground. I just don't wanna live here much longer :)
