with dual nics, do they have to be matching models? and can you use one onboard and one pci?

also, how much does this actually improve transfer rates? am i looking at twice the pull when i do it on my hopefully soon to be dually?

can you set them up to both pull in together? ive seen dual nics in home networks with one hooked to the connection and the other nic serving the connnection to a hub

i've been told it increases ur pull, and you can also set up one to be used as a firewall.

but i don't know how good a change in ur pull it increase if used in the bandwidth increasing form.

**This should have been posted in the internet/networking topic**

That being said, I've heard of linking modems but not NIC's. Like Phantom said, all I've seen is two NIC's in one box which is set up as a firewall for an internet connection.

You can put as many NIC's in a machine as you like. If you are putting over 2 in one machine then I would recommend 3com.

A good network card will have a slightly higher bandwidth. But for small home networks, you will not have many collisions or even transmissions. And you will never get close to 100Mbps with a home network. :)

As for increasing the pull, the more you spend an a network card the better it will become. Go for 3com.
