so, has anyone tried out sp3 yet and if you have, how's it run? also, any new scary eula's in there?
I've been using the BETA from http://www.iexbeta.com with no problems. No visible changes, but thats cus its all security updates ect. As for the new EULA clause that gives them rights to install software on your computer with liability to them, well most of the stuff you download from MS has this new clause, so its most likely you've already downloaded domething with this clause in. Not sure if the beta does though.
But if your afraid of big brother accessing your computer (M$), put your mind at rest, because your computer is open to many other sticky fingered people if you don't update your indows security anyway

I'm installing it on a test machine at work today, see how it goes. But my hopes are few. The amount of hotfixes for it already (it's been out what, a week for public download?) are crazy. I think I'll probably be sticking with sp2

I've been running it for a week- testing for some systems at work-
Only problem I've had was that it took my webserver down for a while:
3 reboots, stop IIS, and reboot a couple more times.
Webserver has been up since (and back to starting normally) and no other problems noted.
As far as the eula: get used to it if you are using MS stuff, I think.
They've started and I don't see them stopping! I am not fond of some of thier recent changes either, so I do shut off their auto-update spyware (err, I mean feature.)
The only ways I am aware of to completely protect yourself from MS spyware code are:
No internet at all
Alt OS
No computer.
I've been running it since the beta stages, and it's a bit of alright. Turn off the auto-update feature, and you're golden.
I run full now. I've found no problems.

you might have trouble with older software that wasn't designed for 2000.i have photodeluxe that i got with an hp scanner,it was written for 98 but ran fine with 2000 untill i got sp3.it has some .dll's that are different from the original with more kb's.i have also noticed that i cannot view some video files i had used previosly because some codec's have been removed.??
I've just reinstalled 2K, and I've decided to skip most updates as I spend more time reinstalled 2K over sh!te patchs than I do over hacks. A good firewall and AV prog will do instead of all that M$ bullsh!t, which now carries more EULA and info gathering. Depends who your more scared of, big brother or hackers. I find you get less trouble from hackers, not that I ever give it much thought, never had a virus or hack atempt since I started using computers.
I always go by this motto; If it works leave it well alone!

Good points, but there are often updates to apps that are helpful too. Not to say I don't prefer to see what the changes are BEFORE I install an SP or hotfix of course: if they don't tell me what it does, I don't install it!
And I like the motto- but for me this is more appropriate:
If it works, either make it better or destroy it beyond all recognition!
:D
Don't get me wrong, I download updates for things that need them, like a prog that needs a compatibility update. But thats about as far as I will go, though your motto is frighteningly familiar.
