View Full Version : MSI K7D if you have or want must read
To all those considering a dually but dont want to unlock XP or buy MP's well this board may be for you.
K7D Master Manual 3-11
BIOS ID of MP Capabilities
This itemis to specify the cpu's mulitprocessor (MP) mode. Select Enable and the CPU will follow the AMD's application note. Select Diasable to allow dual Athlon XP's to run in MP mode. However , this item is hidden if only one processor is running
(Note:The mainboard specifications does not support dual Athlons running in MP mode. Therefore , we do not recommend end userd select [Disabled].)
I havent actually tested this because I unlocked my XP's before I even installed them.

I just got my K7D and two XP2100's today, but I can't set the system up until I get my WC system built.
But after I get it built, if someone hasn't posted here, I will certainly let you guys know if it really does work.

Yo all,
I got the MSI Master-L today, so now I have tried this option. And it does not work. It doesn´t matter if I enable or disable this function, the outcome is the same: The cpu list shows as if there were only one cpu, and BIOS gives a warning that my CPU´s aint MP capable and do I wish to continue boot into an unsupported uniprocessor mode. If I choose "halt on:no errors" this message doesnt show.
The cpus are: XP1700 AGKGA and XP1700 AGOIA. Different steppings but it shouldn´t matter.
XP will not work on this machine also, just like with the Asus board.

Henry

I'm using dual XP's on my K7D. I just painted the L5 bridge and booted it up. It recognizes them as MP's and works perfectly. I've got my two XP1800's overclocked to 150 FSB (2100+).

I saw a pic, before, and I've seen it on other XP's, but I can't find the L5 bridge(s) on either of my XP2100's.
Maybe it's under the sticker, but can someone give me a quick description of where it/they are?

They are right next to the arrow you use to align the cpu before you insert the chip right next to the L8 bridges and right above the L7 bridges.

I did the L5 mod and the mobo now recognizes them as MP1700´s. So they work in dual. Wonder what that option in the BIOS really is for?

Henry

Yeah, I ´ve heard that from quite a few people so far. Since I shifted mobo that would propably not be the cause. I know that the memory, cpu´s, harddrives, CD/DVD drives and the PCI cards(WHich Im not using anyway) work since I have used them all in other machines. The only question mark is the VGA card, but I have one alternate card and it turns out exactly the same. With Windows 2000 it works fine?!?
This is without a doubt the weirdest problem I´ve had with any of my computers so far.

Henry

Where else can I find out how to turn an XP2100 into an MP?
You only have to mod the one bridge its the last bridge there are four in total. Sorry no pics I already posted them sometime so I cant post them again.

like jbslow said, if the side bridge is cut, it's the one you have to fill(or so i gathered from the hardware zone article)
i wish someone else would copy that article and host it somewhere else, it took me like 30 tries yesterday to get on their web page.
here is my mad paints skills version of the picture

So what about that 9th contact, as I painted above? What's that for, and where does it fit in to your pic there?

The 9th contact isn't important. Just paint the bridge like he said before.

It should look something like that.

Okay, so just so I know for SURE, here's a pic of one of my 2100's (that mottled crap to the left of that pad is goo left over from the sticker). The orange line is all I'd have to do with Arctic Silver, or silver paint, or window defogger repair kit or conductive ink/pencil, right?

edit: jbslow, i take it you like the k7d? i'm trying to decide on which board to buy

LOL You cant judge if the page is done or not by that!! It can still load more even if Explorer says its done. And it DOES work! I checked it again and it shows, however its not on a fast server. BE PATIENT TRY AGAIN that is the only good XP into MP guide I have found so far, it has got all the pictures and everything.

You got it. But you don't have to paint around the pit. You don't even have to fill it in, like the L1 bridges. You just paint straight across the pit.
BTW, the K7D rocks.
EDIT... The hardwarezone page loads fine for me.

I opened the link in a new window, waited until it said "done," got a screencap, then went to make a sandwich and pour a coke. When I got back, it still wasn't loaded.
In case your wondering, this is my cable connection. =P

cmcquistion, how can you paint straight accross the pit? Aren't all the pits conductive at the bottom, like L1's?
cmcquistion
08-17-02, 03:41 PM
I don't know the science behind it. I just know that you don't have to fill the pits for some reason.
I've done it and I didn't fill the pits. It works fine.
