What are the overclocking abilities of the 2100 and 2200 xps? How easy is it to do and how high will it run stable with sufficient cooling (something like a $35 heatsink+fan). Also, u just unlock them like you would unlock a tbird, right? thx for any replies

I hope I can help you since I just upgraded to a 2200+ from an 1800+. The majority of mobos have to be modded, but at worst, you have to unlock the cpu. Unlocking is by far the easiest thing to do since the pencil unlock on the tbirds. There are many docs that detail the procedure.

Here's the catch:

I had to OC the cpu in order for it to work. The default setting for the 2200+ requires 133x13.5, but in my mobo's BIOS, that setting was defined as >x13. Selecting it creates a no-boot. The best I have been able to do is 150x12.5. No higher on the fsb is possible. Still, not bad. What I sacrifice tho is no fast or ultra settings, and no memory timing enhancements. None. Could be the 2200+ is a bit more touchy on memory timings than the others. The choice is yours, but temps haven't been a problem with the hsf I was using on my 1800+, I still hover around 44.5C under load.

buy an EPOX 8K3A2 or an 8K5A2 and youll get much better OC's as long as you have good memory and your cpu is unlocked
