ok, finally got everything put together...here is the important stuff:

lian li pc-6083a
thermalright ax-7 w/ YS-Tech 120mm fan (131cfm)
amd xp 1900 agoga
stock fans, all on full blast

having installed mbm5, i see that first, system temps are ~35C...this is partly due to the fact that the room in which the computer sits has terrible ventilation...a/c doesnt even seem to cool the room very well...that's not a big deal because i'm moving soon, but...

second: cpu temps (on die) are 53C!!! now, i have a few questions regarding this:

is this due greatly to the case temps? i do figure that blowing 35C air onto a cpu isnt that great...

maybe it's the fan? the ys tech blows a helluva lot of air, but it also blocks 2 of my fans...it blocks one of my antec true430 fans as well as an exhaust fan above my pci slots (only halfway)

plus, the ys tech is so close to the side of the case (with the adapter) that i dont think it has enough air to actually push onto the processor...

when i feel around the fan, a lot of the air is coming out around the fan grill, which i find a bit odd...

now, it could also be that the AS3 that i put on there is not on correctly...i took it to a shop because something was wrong when i initially built the comp...they put on the HSF for me, and i dont know if they used as3 (which i had taped to the case), and plus, they stole it (i actually left it there), so i dont have any more...i may check to see if there's any on there...if not, i'll have to see where the holy tube is...

so there are my questions...i have a vantec tornado as well, but that thing is literally as loud as a vacuum cleaner compared to this ys tech fan...for better cooling, should i hook up the vantec? it doesnt make any sense to me that the tornado would work better, because the ys tech pushes almost 50 more cfm...i have a rheobus, so i can always turn it down, but i dont like getting warnings from MBM5 that my cpu is @ 60C when i'm gaming....

i'd really like the temps to be more in the 40C range than at 50C idle...

just to scare y'all: in mbm5, the only sensor i had active was the system case one...before i cleaned up the case and hooked up the rheobus, (i thought this sensor was cpu, to boot!) it was constantly in the low 40s...imagine what my cpu was like...

as i said, i think it is very odd that some ppl have cpu temps ~35 (maybe 40C on die max), yet with all my cooling, i am at 53C...what am i doing wrong?

suggestions PLEASE!!!

oh, and taking the side panel off and plopping a hugh jacz fan pointing in the computer drops on die temps to 49C and case temps to 33C....

methinks it has less to do with ventilation in the case itself (ie- case fans) since a huge fan does very little to lower the temps @ idle...

well if those temps are correct, theyre not too bad considering the 35C case temp. Of course, find that AS3 (or buy it for $5 from svcompucycle.com), that'll help.

Take your side panel off and see what the case temps are, even blow a large house fan at the case. This will be the temp you should aim for. If this temp is 30C or less, but then 35C with the panel on, somethings wrong with your fan setup. you need to place them better to balance the air flow. give that a try and see how much less the temps are.

well, it doesnt seem to help much with the house fan aiming in the computer...drops case temps to ~32C...

maybe it's just the room...

still, do y'all think the vantec tornado would perform better??

PLEASE! i need more suggestions...any will do

how 'bout that! put the tornado back on to see what temps it really got...

now idle is 41C...case temp (with the side panel open) is 32C...

i'd still like the temps a bit lower, but that's a helluva lot better than 53C...

now, the big question is: why the hell does an 84cfm fan cool better than a 131cfm fan?

i'd venture to say that: with the 131cfm fan (120mm), much of the air was coming out the sides of the finger guard, probably due to the adapter...

the tornado is a lot louder, but i think i can hook it up to my rheobus and turn it down a notch when i need it...

now, can anyone make sense of that? an 80mm fan outcooling a 120mm fan rated higher (cfm-wise) than the latter...

now i bet if i had the time (and the willpower) i could write a great article, or at least something a bit more articulate, but i have to go into the other room to check the temps on my new computer...

suggestions are still appreciated...

ps-- noticed my 4th star....woo hoo...
