If I go for a dual cpu board and only one cpu, will I have to reinstall the os (either win 2K pro or xp pro) when I put in another chip?

nope you will have to just select multiprocsor under the computer tab in divice manager. just do update driver. if it dosnt find the other cpu then you can just tell it to use one of the two multi cpu chocies. another 14 hour day this is all the spelling i can handle:)

technically you can just change the driver to the multiprocessor kernel, but i find its always better to reinstall....

well i didnt notice a difference from my driver upgraded 2k and my reinstalled xp. any difference youll notice will be from that fact that you have a freash install witch we all know has that freash install feeling. other than that its just another driver that interacts with the kernal.

do you have to reistall when adding a second cpu? no

can you just do a fresh install to get smp? yes

is it any different than a driver upgrade? no

is a freash install better than an old simply because its a fresh install? yes
