Yodums and Frodo's Window Adventures

[Frodo Baggins]

Part 1: I phoned Yodums and told him to come with me and buy some plexi so we could mod our window

Part 2: We biked to Home Depot, and spent time finding some plexi. Spent anotehr 10 minutes arguing what was the biggest size plexi we could bring home one handed on our bikes

Part 3: Bought the plexi, brought home the plexi, and kille dour biceps and armpits half crashing our bikes into cars .

Part 4: used a dremel, and jigsaw to cut holes in our case. It was alot easier then we thought, but we had to spend about an hour dealing with the cops the nieghbors had called --> ack! noise!

i cut the hole in my CDRW at 2am with a loud azz jigsaw with
garage door open, no cops came :D

The plexi was bigger then a mid tower (about half a foot to a foot bigger height wise)

hmm i cut my case with a jigsaw took like 20minutes no nieghbors complained probably cause they know i would freak out and they wouldnt get anywhere lol just jokin but i remember i couldnt wait to get done because of the noise

awesome designs!!! I wish I was a skilled cutter with a dremel..the only things I can make decent are circles..and they only look good cuz they got the chrome guards that sorta take away from imperfections...

Oh and about the cops, I think it's more your niehgborhood then country...I know canadians get scared when someone farts cuz it sounds liek a shotgun (hehe ok done with cananada jokes)...but even in the US if you got uptight assholish nieghbors your gonna hve to deal with it...probably same in canada

Try starting an engine you've been working on for 15+ hours at 7:00 AM on a Sunday morning, with no exaust attched what so ever. Neighbors were definately not pleased.

The mods look great guys! Good job. Need to get some paint on there though. ;)

I can think of worse things .. Like some kid standing out in his driveway attempting to play the bagpipes .. I wanted to start shooting at him, but my friend who owns the house wouldnt let me. I mean .. bagpipes are bad enough when the person knows how to play them !!

well, our friend has an old cannon and we fire "blanks" out of it every now and then... in the middle of houston. people freak, but that 9ft flame coming out of the end of it is well worth it...

haha dude, that's really expensive from a window mod! We would have to buy massive sandpaper, paint and all those sprays that make it reflective!

Well!

We decided to get some lighting today:
We shopped at Canadian Tire in the automobile section:

Yodums took a blue neon light that was about 5-6 inches long, and we hooked it up. It was great! Bright bright!

I decided to go with something a bit moreexpensive (5 bucks more), so I saw this sweet looking UV light. It was double tubed like this :

one under [ ------------------- ]

I had thought that since it was double the size and more tubing it would be WAAAAY brighter (at least AS bright cuz UV doesn't glow too well)

But alas, no it didn't It gives out a dull purple glow, but it should look okay at night, not spectacular like dum's case:

Man, I just stuck out the neon in, it's awsome!!!!!

It's bright as heck and just tried it in the dark, awsome.

Unforunately the auto part of the store is over protected. They had neons and car stuff in a lockable shelf thingy, and the guy had to escort us to like the cashier. It wasn't refundable once open. If it wasn't open then it's a 20% restocking fee.

ah well, I elevated the UV a bit, but it still's okay. If I save up I cna buy another neon light (like Yodums, then installe t on top somewhere) Neon + UV will look mad

Ontario? Whatchu talkin bout Rugged Canada. I'm from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. If someone doesn't like the noise I make, I feed them to my pet polar bear, and go home to my igloo. I recently modded my igloo by spraypainting it red on the outside. It's pretty cool, I'll post pics. Heh, hint to Americans: I'm joking. :D

Actually I have biased opinions. When I went to Florida for march break, and people asked me where I was from with my accent, and I explaind where I was from, (usually after saying Canada, I still had to say "beside alaska") I had several people ask me if we ever got attacked by polarbears, if I live near Santa Clause, If I live in Igloos... etc...

Use a highlighter. It's harmless, cheap, and won't really show up till you turn the lights off, and have just the UV.

and if your using a jigsaw you might wanna invest in a diamond tip blade or something like that, so that it cuts nicer (the normal blades are meant for wood!)

I bought a 24 TPI blade that is designed for ferrous metals. It cost 3 bucks for 2 blades.

Here is the list of materials and where I bought them for how much:

Acryllic --> a big sheet (bigger then my mid tower) 11.95 at Home Depot
Molding --> TrimBrite, gold molding --> canadian Tire 3.99
Jigsaw Blades --> 24 TPI --> Home Depot
UV Light --> 33.99 --> canadian tire

Just an update: I checked out the UV light when evening came (still some light, but not total pitch dark), it's cRAZY! Pretty nice!, let me change my mind, the glow of two 10 inch tubes of UV is pretty cool , it makes my mobo look fake and plasticky, and makes my PCI cards look coo ;)

and + if campires ever come over, they won't jack my comp cuz of the UV

(bte you dont have to paint the whole blade either you can do like a swirling (sp?) line going around the whole fan from the center to the tips lol (this is even if you can see the fan, and if it isnt goint to fast) i havent seen that one yet, would like to though lol

What's weird is that the darker it gets, the faker Frodo system looks. I went over there at 8pm and the UV Made his motherboard look completely fake. You know the motherboard in graphic videos etc? That! :D

i marked once on top of the vid card PCB and nothing!!
then did it another 40 times and gave up.
do i need a special highlighter or something?

Big thanks to Yodums for helping me clean p my case today ;)

Anyways, we had to remove everything, in my case to make the window at the top of the case. Yodums cleaned it up wicked, so now it's nicer then ever.

I also used double sided tape on the fans, then put a small piece of white paper, and now my fans glow in the dark (the fins baby)

Oh yeah, just a side note, Yodums and I are [planning on doing the last mod for some time on my case. I have one more strip of molding (used only a bit today) and a small piece of plexi that'll work fine for a window in the fron tof my case where the intake fan is. (Right under the LED)

I found out the space betwwen the front of the case and the actual metal of the case is more then half an inch and that's enough to give me room for a window ( I fit a closer one above my PSU). We dont' even have to take out the mobo and everything. We can take out the front plastic easily)

What do you guys think? bad idea?

I think that would be too much. Try putting a windows on your CD-ROM instead. Also about the UV stuff you can get some UV paint at pretty much any auto parts store (dont know about Canadian Tire though...). You could also get some wicked UV sensitive UV cables.

I wish I knew 1 person near me that was into comps as much as I do so we could mod our cases together. All I did today was sit in front of my comp waiting for people to answer my posts. Thats more than 12hours... Oh and I forgot to eat to so I didn't eat all day long (actually I just went to get myself 2 yogurts and half a bag of Ruffles BBQ). I shoulda worked on painting my case!!!!:cry:

I thought your top window showed your CD-ROM. Why did you make it right on top of your PSU??? Also I'm not quite sure what exactly you see in the front window??? BTW I'm not trying to diss you or anything, there is no doubt in my mind as to your window making skills.

it's okay. ABout the fronthole, I'm plannign on cutting out the metal fan grill some time in the future then maybe attaching some LEDs behind the fan (sometime in the far future)

Aboutthe top window. It was impossible to make a window past where I did it. My bays extended allthe way past to the top of the case and I couldn't make one main window past that part of the bay that was sticking on the top of the case.

I did try to make another smaller window directly above the CDROM bay, but I found out that becasue the bay is significantly smaller then the case sides, I'd have to make a hole no larger then 80-90 mm (Circle, not square), which would be pointless

Makes sense. Anyway I think you should get some UV sensitive paint and paint your RAM and Vid card with it, it would be SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET.

I'm not sure but there's no way they'll be over 10$ and you can paint a lot of stuff with 'em!!
I suggest you call a few auto body shops in your area to see if they have it.

personally, I think you went a little overboard with the frontal window. But thats just me. I'm moving from Yellowknife, NWT, to Edmonton Alberta next week for university. Hope to make a case window and hopefully go water cooled down there. Anyone in the area?
