OK, on many sites I'm prompted to download Java Virtual Machine. No biggie, I've downloaded it before. Now Microsoft says it no longer hosts the file or whatever. At first it was an annoyance but now I really want it, there's alot of stuff online that's not entirely working! Anyone know where I can get this?

What OS are you running?

Opera includes it in it's browser, so maybe you can install it and strip it out of there.

Win XP. I don't really wanna bother with Opera just yet, I'm a netscape man but I crumbled and went IE since Netscape is crap now... I just got used to it.

Bad news mate. Java has been shut down by Microsofts big takeover plan of .Net services. You will still be able to find the API's that run java scripts on the net, but u won't find java on M$ websites for downloading nemore.

Actually, that's good news. Since M$ is getting out of the Java business, the original Sun Java API will once again be the only version of Java out there, and you won't have to worry about whether web pages expect Sun Java or M$ Java.

Both Sun and IBM have Java VM versions you can download.

Which one do I download? There are several choices on that page. I downloaded the first one and I still can't view the web pages that needs java virtual machine. I'm using windows xp pro. Anyone have a suggestion on what to download and how do I use it? Thanks

J2SE 1.4.0 should work. Get the JRE(java runtime environment). That should be all you need.(I just tested it*uninstall then reinstall* and it worked) Here is a direct link http://dlres.java.sun.com/JSCDL/download/1992010101750168-415/324159480272474303-886/j2re-1_4_0_01-windows-i586.exe Hope it helps.
