I just made a window (check my other thread), so now I'm looking for a light

The problem is I only have about 20-25 dollasr CANADIAN to spend on lighting

I spent some time reading the forums, and here are my 3 choices:

1. Buy LEDs at Radio Shack. How much would this cost me? All I know is that shipping charges won't exist. How good is the lighting?

2. Do the Walmart Neon Light mod: This would be perfect and cost be about 20 dollars I read here:
http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=89505&highlight=walmart
But...I do't those neon lights are available to Canada....I'll ahev to call

3. Buy a cathode of the internet:
http://www.hobbytron.net/99CC.html
Alot more expensive + I have to pay for shipping

ooh yah, click the walmart link, and scroll down and you'll see someone's case. this is the look I'm going for :)

the thing with Neon is thay get pritty warm and if heat is a problem in your case .. well you dont want to add more heat anyway

But a cold "cathode", I think the cold part tells you that its cool to touch so wont realy add heat to the Case

LED's are ok for bright light in small places
just look at the ones on ya case (power) ... i cant see them lighting the whole case ?

I'm looking at gettting a cold cathode
Im hoping someone in calgary is selling them a good price ,iv seen a few but there CND $50 with tax

Good luck

Just did the Wallmart trick to a 8" that I got from the local stereo shop. It works good. no real heat from the neon. a bit of heat from the neon pwr supply tho. Not enough to worry about I think.

Leds would work and would be very simple to implement. All you'd have to do is get something with >1000 mcd (their US$4 blue LEDs are 2600 mcd).
If you get the 3.7V blue LEDS (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F010%5F012%5F002%5F009&product%5Fid=276%2D316), buy at least 3 and wire them in serial (positive of one to the negative of the next). If you want a multiple of 3, wire sets of 3 in serial, then wire the sets of three together (positive to positive and negative to negative). If you want other than a multiple of 3, wire sets of three together, then use one of the following. The blue things are LEDS (wrong symbol, but I'm lazy today).

I'll check with walmart tomorrow on the neon lights. Do you guys know anywhere else you could buy those neon lights? (Esp. in Canada)

It would be easier if I could buy the neon lights instead of cathodes I think, but I'll think about it when I find one to get in Ottawa

I've bookmarked the SVC site you gaev me, it looks good, I'll talk to Dums about it

edit: I checked SVC, it sounded great, but I don't think they ship to Can!

edit: I checked with hobbitron! It costs 35$ US Jus to ship to Canada. That's more then double what I pay for the cathode....gggrrrrrrrrrrr

do yourself a favor, save your money and go CCD.

I wired up three Walmart 5" neons at about $15 a pop and Frozencpu.com just dropped their 4"CCD prices down to $19.99. The CCD are at least 15x's brighter and for the extra $6 there is no reason to go neon, just not bright, just not worth it... been there done that... If you'd like I have before and after pics with my machine with three neons and after with only two CCD's installed. I guarentee you won't believe the diff...

if you need wiring help I have a better article for the 5" walmart neons I did in the forum here. The 5"ers are a little different from the 10 and 15 walmart sells.

EDIT: P.S. your user animated gif is FREEKIN WEIRD!

the hobbytron ccs arent much more expensive at all, you can get everything for like 13 bucks shipped. Its 50x better than any walmart crap and its at least the same price to boot.

Well over here on the west coast of Canada, the 9" neons at wallmart are $32 (10", $35).

I picked at a black light at Spenders Gifts for $20. Not sure if you have a Spenser's Gifts over there, but check out those stores that sell all that cra-stuff that glows in the dark. We have a few here.

NOTE: All those prices are in Canadian Dollars.
