soon if not already it will have crappy updates of things that no one cares about such as .NET stuff but you may enjoy the new system they put in the system pack as long as your copy of xp is legit you don't have to worry about them making your copy invalid etc...

The service pack adds some new call home features for Home, and a new algorythm for CD keys or something. Corporate wasn't affected, though.

I cant remember where i saw this, probly was on a forum, someone tried updating an illegal copy of XP pro corporate edition with a cd key starting with FCK and SP1 did not want to install. I guess its just a rumour though since this guy probly wasnt a reliable source.

Y does everyone say this? there is not a new algorithem(sp) you just cant use certain keys that M$ has found on the net, so you just have to change your cd key big deal, its already worked around. and sp1 has almost all the current updates and the .net framework sp2

i heard the copies using the devils own cd key. (FCK..) is only affected if the sp is slipstreamed into an installation.

that's the rumor i heard. the dev's own is the only affected key. but would MS really anounce if there was more? think about it.......

you don't need a service pack to uninstall IE or windows media player there are ways around this

I am waiting for this SP rather impatiently, as I have had a number of problems with XP and hope that the service pack will rectify them.

Ideally, I am hoping that the service pack will make XP as good as 2K; the ability to turn off all the "wizards" and have them STAY OFF would be nice.........

word has it that the XP SP1 is on track for a release date of August 28, 2002.
It's at Beta build 1090, and the IE6 SP1 is at final build.
