ok
i'm just trying my first overclock!
I need to know some info on multipiers/fsb stuff,
if i up my fsb a few tweeks should i see alot of temp rise?
i just upped it and now my cpu amd2000 reads at 1.700!!! not 1.666 with what seems to me a 1c temp rise? is this ok?
also if i up the multiplier from 12.5 to 13 what will this do and will the temp rise alot? and if i do this in conjuction with the fsb tweek i just did will it be ok? or should i put the fsb back before i up the multiplier?
cheers guys i need to be led abit here its all new ground to cover
thank you all!
Your cpu speed is determined by FSB speed multiplied by... the multiplier. So that is 12.5 times 133 stock, and 12.5 times 136 now that you've overclocked (=1700Mhz). Increasing the multiplier (if your multiplier is unlocked) would result in 13x136 = 1768Mhz.
Note that increasing the FSB also increases AGP and PCI speeds, set by a fraction of the FSB speed (1/2 and 1/4 respectively at 133Mhz FSB).
Increasing the cpu speed by either multiplier or FSB will increase its temperature. By how much is to be determined. You can use a program like Motherboard Monitor (MBM) to keep an eye on temps.
And try Prime95 to keep an eye on stability. =) Good luck.

hi
thank you fir that!
so in effect i can just up my fsb alot to get fast speed!
and also when the pci increases does this cause much of an instability?
and prime95 will this proggy stop if it gets unstable?

Hi
i just put the settings back and then upped the multiplier to 13.0 and it hung?????
should it do that? do i have a setting wrong somewhere?
so i put that back then upped the fsb to 140 and now my cpu is at 1.750 !!!
and the temp has gone up 2c !!! only how far is recommened to increase to??? on the fsb!
strange on the multiplier....

1) PCI speeds can cause instability when you approach 40Mhz or 160Mhz FSB at 1/4 divider.
2) Prime95 will crash or report errors if the system is unstable.
3) It is possible that your CPU is not unlocked. A locked multiplier means you cannot adjust the factory setting (12.5 in this case). There are a lot of resources available about unlocking AMD cpu's. You will need to do that to be able to change the multiplier.
It could also be that the 66Mhz increase was just too much already. In order to overclock higher you could try improving cooling and increasing the cpu voltage by small steps.
4) You can increase the FSB all you want, until you encounter instability. That is why you should always test thoroughly, to be certain the OC is effective.
