View Full Version : I need help with my system...

Hi all, I'll get right to it.

MY original setup was a homemade block, big rad, lots of hose, and a 120mm 80CFM fan, with a 384GPH pump.

I switched to a heater core, lost 70% of the hose, brought it all down to CPU level, and my temps have not changed at all. They may even be a tadbit worse (like .2C).

Right now I'm running pure distilled water, nothing added. My idle is about 45C, and my load is not much higher.

I want to get my temps lower, but the mods above did not seem to help (though my flow rate has increased). My orignal flow rate was about 30GPH, then with the heater core it went to 45GPH (the rad had 20ft of track). I didn't check it after limiting the hosing.

I need suggestions guys, I really want to lower my temps. I even tried a huge 10" fan (about 500CFM) blasting at my heater core/res and it made no difference....

Would water wetter help a lot? Is it my block design? (3/8" channels, 3 pass horizontal). Is it my hose thickness (1/2" OD - 3/8" ID)? Should I get a peltier?

I was planning on overclocking, but I don't feel safe with such a high idle temperature.

Any and all tips are appreciated, thank you very much

hmmm... strange. first of all i would add some water wetter. that really helps. next try running your radiator OUTSIDE of your case and check to see if the temps get any better. what is your ambient temp? cant get better than your ambient

good luck :D

Definetly try some water wetter first as that would probobly be the easiest way out if it works...strange situation, check your block to make sure its getting proper contact?

Thanks for replying guys, I really do appreciate it.

I will get some water wetter tomorrow and try that. Does 45C idle sound too high? Or am I just being a pri**?

45C does sound a big high for idle with WC....seems like you have a good fan for the heatercore.....perhaps check the block and make sure it is seated properly....you need asIII of course..:) what is your ambient?

Are you only using one fan for the heatercore? Using 2 fans(with shroud if your not already using one) in a push and pull config should give you better results.

Somethings that stick out to me.

1. Maybe your block is not good enough

2. Air in the lines

3. Need more air through the heat core.

Heatcores work the best when air is pulled through them. Even better if you have a fan on either side. Shrouds may or may not make any difference, Im going to make some for myself durring the weekend.

Your temps are deffinalty too high. I get load temps of 40c with 2.2v and a pretty hefty o/c

Thanks for the tips guys, keep em coming.

I think I may get some YS-Tech 131CFM fans, and put them on either side, this would be an improvement, yes?

I will be putting water wetter in within the hour, and post any changes.

I just had a MAJOR scare - I spilled some water on my mobo, and it seemed allright, but after 10 minutes my hard drive went kaboom. I took the whole thing apart last night, put it back together this afternoon, and WHEW! So far everything seems fine. I re-tightened my block after taking it off, and my temps may have improved, I'm watching them right now and will let you guys know.

Thanks a lot!

I must have gotten the WB tighter, because now my idle is 43C, which is 2-3 lower than before my "incident".

I just added 3 ounces or water wetter, I had about 3L of water in the system, I will monitor and update.

Idle is now 42C! Allright, we're getting there!

My ambient is about 22-24C (at least downstairs on the thermostat, so we could assume, since hot air rises, my room is maybe 25-26?)

My next step is to slap some AS3 on the block, and add more fans (see my other topic on YS-Tech).

If you've got any other tips, please just shoot thanks!
