Hello.
I have a Dell Ultrascan P990 19" Trinitron monitor and when I boot up the bios screen (select DEL to enter bios bit) is not displayed. The monitor light blinks amber then green.
Then it always goes onto display the windows logon and subesquent displays fine, lovely monitor.
Is this a refresh rate issue as I believe the monitor has a 50 -60 hz range and windows is 60 mhz minimum (?)
Anyone got this monitor and had similar problems?
Asus A7V333
1.9 XP
GF 4 4400 Abit
512 2700ram.
Some damaged video cards will have problems displaying the BIOS screen. However, windows can use it as it accesses the graphics card in a different way.
Try a different Video card if possible.

I apprecialte you comments guys I really do but all I seem to get is "buy another" as a response.
If I could afford that I wouldnt be mithering you good folks on this furum.
:o :o Sorry lads. Yeah it seems that a different monitor displays the bios okay but I would like to get around this issue on my main monitor.
Any further input? Besides get a new computer? :)
Edit: That sounds really snooty (Sorry David. though I am not getting rid of it as it is mildly amusing..)

Have a look at Dell's website or call their tech support: they may be able to help.

Dell!??:mad:I would never contact them again. What a pile of W*NK.
They really couldnt care less. I contacted them with reference to this monitor as I needed a replacement data cable for it and they transferred my about 8 times (no joke) and then put me onto a third party company who is supposed to deal with their monitor spares (on their answerphone it had a message "if this call is with reference to replacemtn monitor spares, we dont do them") when I got through I was turned down flat.
I will never, ever ,ever buy Dell again.
I spit on them!! ptoo ptoo!

Their tech support went downhill two years ago as their profit margins sank (with everyone elses).
I don't know what to suggest doing other than getting a Cheap-o video card online to use as a BIOS only card. some sites sell them for $15 or less.
had a similar problem with and older pent machine years ago.
Ended up being able to see the bios after making a change in the bios setup (for displaying colors).
What happened for me was that I could see some info, but 90% was missing. After switching color modes in the bios i could see everything.
This was an old beater clone machine.

My guess is that the monitor is not getting the signal to come one long enough before it fully boots and starts windows. Some of my faster booting computers with old monitors do this. The key is to keep hitting the delete key even though you cannot see anything. Then, when the monitor is ready, it will disply the bios. Or, if you don't want to go into the bios, hit the "Pause/Break" key. It will stop the booting of the computer and give the monitor time to warm up and display what is on the screen.
