Aside from the original 1.7 seti@home, what are reccommended as add ons, if any. I've seen posts about spy, don't know much about it though.

Are you running the screen saver? Get the CLC its way faster, also use SETI driver to cache WUs.

Dump the 1.7 and get the CLC version.
SETI&Home (v3.03 CLC) i386-winnt-cmdline.exe
SETI Spy (v3.07) SETISpy.exe
SETI Driver (v1.6.3.3) SETIDriver.zip
You can get the above progs at this page in the forum, below the graft.

The CLC version runs much faster.
And by the way Welcome to the Forums.

ok I ditched the 1.7, and picked up the driver, and spy(which I got from the sticky above).
whenever the driver and spy icons are in my system tray, is it processing?? if so, do I just put them on when I'm ready to process. Or does it just wait till I'm inactive, like the screensaver version??

Did you read how to install the programs ------>
: If you have previous SETI versions, uninstall ALL SETI programs
: Create a "SETI" folder
: In the SETI folder, copy "setiathome-3_03_i386-winnt-cmdline.exe" & "SETI Driver.exe" & "SetiSpy.exe"
The CLC version is not a Screen Saver. I would just down the zip file and set up the folder then follow the directions.
Just make sure that you uninstall the 1.7 version.
If you've set it up correctly, then it will show up in your taskbar meaning it's processing. When SetiSpy is green, it's good. If it's yellow, it's idle, meaning there are no free CPU cycles (if you're playing a game). If SetiDriver is yellow, then the server is down and you cannot transmit again until it turns blue.
Welcome to the forums!!!

If setidriver is yellow, it doesn't mean the server is down, if it's yellow it means driver isn't transmitting/recieving any wu's. I believe it turns upside down and red when you have no wu's processing. I think setispy does the same thing when you have no wu's.

and yes, it's running/crunching at the background as long as u see those 2 icon. and for start/close, just click on the Spy icon (green one) since for the above mentioned setup, Spy is controlling Driver, and Driver is controlling the CLC client.
welcome to the forum!! and feel free to ask any question u have!! ;)
