Copper shims

Do copper shims really work well? I have a t bird 900.

Anyone know of a place that ships them out cheap>? Paying 5 bucks for something that weighs less than a ounce kinda bites.

$5 is porbably the cheapest you'll find any shim. If you find any cheaper let me know.

I know of two places who ship them out very cheap. If you go to www.highspeedpc.com they will send it in the mail for free and if you go to www.sidewindercomputers.com they will ship it for like 1.50 or something like that if you use pay pal and like 4 dollars if you just normally pay for it. I got mine from www.sidewindercomputers.com and I paid like 13 for it with shipping and everything else. Hope this helps!

Some places even want 10 bucks to ship, what a rip. 10 for the part, 10 for shipping, for a shim of copper...
I guess thats what we get for being lazy and not making our own.

Shims are dangerous!!!!! I fried my old t-bird 800 using a deadly combo, Pencil trick, Arctic silver and a Copper shim. I used a good quality shim cut perfectly for the t-bird. Not worth the risk. I also tried one on my 1.2ghz, no change in temps. Save your money!!!!

Tweak, the other day I looked into it a little more, and decided the same thing for myself. I had read a pretty good review on them, but when I started searching around for more info, I found that they really don't help that much, they just save you from crushing the core.

Also, I learned that the Durons and Thunderbirds radiate heat from the core, to the outer edges of the chip, and into the heatsink, and a shim could hamper that.

So for now, no shims for AKDUDE.

The problems I have heard with shims are with the ones that don't have the cut outs for the feet and they end up sliding around and shorting out or frying the core. The one that I bought and am using has the cut outs for the feet on the cpu which stops it from sliding around and coming in contact with anything important. I did not purchase mine for extra cooling since it will not help with that and it might raise your temp a degree or two but I find that 10 dollars and a degree or two is not too much to spend on a good quality shim to save my 200 dollar investment. Just my 2 cents!

Yeah, you got one of those too? I got that one, with the cut outs for the feet so it won't move. Heh, I am not going to have to put up with that hedgehog for long anyways, i'm going with liquid cooling.
