Hmm... I'm confused. One of the main reasons i bought a GF4Ti card (up from my ti500) was because of the improved AA performance... I heard things such as only taking a hit of 300 points on 3dmark2001se when enabling 2x AA (compared to over 3,000 points on my Ti500). I got my card today, and when AA of any form isn't enabled, the card smokes... Over 13,500 3dmark2001se points (about a 3,000 point increase!), but when i enable just 2x Anti-Aliasing, it can barely get over 10,000 points! I've seen numerous bennhmarks on the web that show it performing MUCH better when 2xAA is enabled, so what the heck is up? I have the latest drivers, and i'm not sure why it's taking such a huge peformance hit with this, when 2x isn't supposed to even dent this card. Any suggestions?

Well, a ~20% hit while rendering 2X the resolution is quite good really.

Not that I ever pay attention to 3Dmark scores..but that looks right to me. I hope you weren't expecting a 0% hit.

things are still playable, but i mean look up any review of the gf4ti cards and there is almost no hit (3-5%) with 2xAA... I'm just wondering why i'm not experiencing this myself.

Could be driver version.

Could be your 3D settings. Quality as opposed to performance(quincunx).

Could be that you have V-sync on.

Could be that you have a 64MB and reviews are using 128MB ones.

i've checked all the settings, even with riva tweak... I'm using 2x, because quincunx or whatever is blurry as ****, and takes an ever bigger hit than 2x. Vsync is not enabled, as the games run the expected speed when AA is not enabled. They dont make 64MB Ti4600s... I'm stuck here =(

What is your AGP transfer rate set at?

Run Prime95 benchmark and tell me what your last result is.

Why don't you try some actual games and what kind of AA performance you get there?

Actually, I just wanted to see if you were throttling. If that is part of the cause.

:p :D

ROFLMAO

Oh, so you're saying games are ACTUALLY still playable at 10,000 3dmarks?!?!?!?!

You need a reality check my friend....10,000 with AA on is going to do you just fine...

I know it's fine NOW, but i got this card because i wanted to be able to play all of my games... present and future... with 2xAA. In just a few months from now, the games will be much more demanding, and i wanted to be able to continue to play them with 2xAA.

A few years...MAYBE...

I have mad eye candy going on my Ti4200, getting PCMark scores around 5000...

Still get easily playable framerates on all current games that I own. It'll be quite some time before gaming technology is implimented enough to bring your 4600 to its knees...a LONG time...

well, i do like to run all games in 1600x1200 if i can, 1280x1024 is okay too. I'm not really complaining here though about the AA, i'm just wondering why i'm not getting the same results that i expected.
