I have a pilt in my system and I am not trying to freeze anything, yet. My temps are at or a little below room temp with the pilt/water block set up. The cold plate on the cpu is cool but not really cold. If I put some tape on the cold plate to cover it (still leaving the part touching the cpu and the pilt uncovered) will it still make condensation?

I only have a little bit of condensation now. Like a mist of dew drops on the down side of the cold plate. I really dont want to insulate the whole cpu and mobo unless I have too.

Any thoughts from anyone on this....

I haven't messed with pelts....yet. That day is coming though....

But I have done a little with refrigeration, and read up on pelts/chillers and the problems with condensation: I would say yes, insulate if you are getting ANY condensation.

Condensation, by itself, is non-conductive, but over time the water will pick up impurities and it WILL become conductive.

How long do you want to keep the rig?
I just don't think the risk is worth it.

Even a little condensation is a dangerous thing. Read

http://www.octools.com/index.cgi?caller=articles/socket_condensation/intro.html

for a pretty good article on controlling it.

Tomball is close enough to the coast that you are oging to have some pretty humid days. Humidity and col= condensation.
If you are only slightly below ambient temps then a double coat of 'liquid tape', available at many ACE HW stores will handle the problem. Other alternatives are foam/neoprene wrapping, electronic control (http://www.variablepc.com) . Have fun.

Insulate the CPU and Socket even if there's very little or no condensation that you can see, there might be condensation on the back of the CPU!

I had corrosion on the back of my CPU and corrosion on the pins, which caused lock-ups and random restarts....cleaned everything and killed my CPU:(

We use liquid electrical tape at work, I did think of using it for a perm fix. I have used electrical tape and have masked off all areas not needed for the cooling contacts. I had some hose clame problem so I am in the process of getting new ones. I should have it running tonight and we will see if it works.

I have heard dielectric grease works as a good condensation barrier is this true?
