View Full Version : 17-19 inch monitor
I'm back again with another question...I am in the market for a new monitor. I presently have a Gateway Vivitron 1776 (It is older, but I think it's a Sony Trinitron tube). Anyway, I want something just as good. I don't want to throw money away, but I want a great monitor. I do plenty of gaming, among other things. The video card I have is a MSI GeForce 3 Ti500. Any suggestions and places to purchase?
Thanks,
SuperA

with monitors best bet, is go to a large computer store in person and check them out. I think monitors are just something you need to see in person before you shell our the several hundred dollars to buy one. Now once you know which model you want you can shop around on the net for the best price. Trinitron tubes are great, but sony monitors are on the expensive side. If you want another trinitron check out www.dell.com because they carry dell brand trinitron screen, my friend has a 19 inch and it's just as good as the sony monitor. NEC/Mitsu are also really nice, i have a 19 inch NEC Multisynce Fe950+ and it's a awesome monitor. For the absolute cheapest check our Samsung 753df flat screen 17 inch, great monitor at only $160 (i got one of these too).

Yes you really really really really need to see monitors in person. I made that mtake and got a cheap viewsonic a90 and every resolution besides 1280x1024 looks terrible. 1600x1200 makes your eyes bleed and anything lower than 12x10 looks grainy even when you turn the moister up.
Thanks for the info. And although I do respect your opinions....last night I ran into this deal :http://www.sonystyle.com/home/item.jsp?hierc=9683x76x9704&catid=9704&itemid=8243&type=o and I had to jump on it. I couldn't wait. It's a 19 inch Sony Trinitron from Sony direct. Any input?....did I get screwed?

Not yet, but soon:D Maybe you'll be lucky, maybe not. I think the refresh rate of 65hz@1600x1200 is a bit low cuz my 5 year-old 17" CTX has such, but... maybe you'll be lucky! Nevertheless, it's a good buy! Hope you enjoy the new monitor+UT2003
I agree with you on the refresh rate. However, I don't really plan on having the resolution that high, seeing as it's a 19 inch monitor anyway. The other stats are:
Recommended Resolution:
1280 x 1024 @ 75Hz
1024 x 768 @ 85Hz
I'm probably going to stick with one of those. We'll see.

Agreed, the specs aren't great for a 19" flat, but from past experience Sony make really high-quality products, so it should last you a long time! :)
As a suggestion to your original info quest, I'd have said the LG Electronics 915FT Flatron. Man, that is an awesome monitor! 1600*1200*85, and incredible clarity!
