Just wonderin'... Can we do anything to the thermaltake chrome orb to get better cooling? I have one, but as a mistake from the company I ordered my board from. I've thought of closing some or all the fins but I wonder if that would help. Anyone got any ideas ?

You can remove the stock fan and replace it with another fan. I've read that this improves performance. Personally, I'd get a refund and a better HSF.

Thanks for the reply. I ordered it through the net, so I guess I'll keep it. A better fan on it sounds good or maybe use for something else i guess.

You're going to let the company get away with charging and shipping you something you didn't want?? I'd make them refund that money :)

Thanks guys. I sent an email to markonecomputers asking about the mixup. I ordered the aavid dual k7 fan at $18.50... (the best one they have... I think) ...The invoice states a thermal take chrome orb at $18.50, but the orb was listed as $18.00. The 50 cents I don't care about, it's the quality . I couldn't find any info on the aavid fan, so I passed it off as a "good" mistake.

Got a quick response from mark one computers! The "mixup" was me. The avvid fan I ordered was for the "slot a" cpu. So the people in shipping had noticed the error and simply sent the chrome orb (the best they have for the "socket a" I guess). The 50 cents lost was gained by great tech service!
I'm sure many companies would have just sent what I ordered even if it didn't fit.

A GREAT company would have contacted you before shipping! :)

Thanks I needed that. haha. I don't know what to say, I guess I'm too impatient to wait. To me It's still a good company though. Ever deal with Tiger Direct?

This is what I did to my golden orb to improve cooling. I took a stock slot1 fan and screwed it into the end of the orb blowing in. This dropped my temps 4 d F on a celeron 333 @500. You could put a bigger fan on the end too.
