I ahve the F@H 3.0 graphical client and would like to switch to the 3.11 console version . How should I go about this without losing WUs ?

The console version is just a .exe so i think you should be able to drop it into your folding@home folder and start it running.

I'm not sure but if no one comes with a better answer you could try this:
Make a backup of the F@H directory in case things go wrong.
Uninstall the graphical cliente.
Copy the console client to the F@H directory.
Start the console client.
I would also create a shortcut to the cliente and copy it to the start -> start menu.
Or make it run as a service as I did.
EDIT: Rich was faster

I figure I should be able to start it running but the problem is, will it pick up where the other client left off ?

as long as you don't delete the queue file or the work directory it should be fine

if you mean, you stop half way through a WU and change to the new core. then you'll probably lose the WU you're on at the moment.
you might not though, but it is best to wait until the current WU is finished.
when you run the client, don't forget to configure it so your points go to your team. :D
Cowboy,
I just did this with all 16 clients. I wanted to use EMIII and figured I should go with the Console flow. All I did was change the name of the executable for the Console version from winFAHConsole.exe (?) to winFAH.exe and dropped it into my Folding directory with an updated cfg file. I didn't lose a single WU.
I made the new config file the lazy way: I updated to the 3.11 graphic client, configured it, then did the above. I put the .exe and the .cfg on the network and just walked from machine to machine copying the files over.
Like I said, never lost a WU and now everything is being tracked with EMIII on a 200MMX that can't churn out a WU fast enough.

The .cfg contains the client ID.
Are you sure you are not getting the exact same protein and run (clone, gen) in all your machines?

if all the machines contain the same client ID you are successfully giving stanford totally useless data.
they will recieve one lot of useful data from one of your machines and 15 lots of the exact same data.
of course you recieve 16 machines worth of points.
not exactly a fair trade is it? :D
EDIT: you need to go into the client.cfg on everyone of your machines and delete the line "userid=xxxxxxxx".
the next time you start the client it will get a new ID from stanford.

oops - maybe not so clever, well renaming it the same as the graphical edition was pretty clever tho :p

I just went on this rampage through my network shares to find the ID's for each machine and compare, here's what I found:
The .cfg file does not contain the User ID in the new Console version. Whether or not this is a change I do not know, but the User ID is located in the FAHlog.txt file.
Here is an example of the new config file:
[settings]
username=Wedo team=32 asknet=no machineid=1 local=226
[http] active=no host=localhost port=8080 usereg=yes usepasswd= proxy_name= proxy_passwd=
[graphics] drawgap=357 drawtitle=1 drawlogos=1
drawmode=1
[core] priority=0 cpuusage=100
[clienttype] type=1
Notice the User ID is not present. So I ripped through my shares and these are my User ID's for each of the sixteen (edit: 15, the other is at home) CPU's:
http://www.justa-larrkin.com/UserID.jpg
You will notice that the only User ID's that are redundant are on the Mayor-MLand machine which is a dually, but the FAHlog.txt handles them differently by a user assigned Machine ID in the configuration of the program.
This did help me out though, as I found my dually to be running four instances and none of them well.
Cheers,
Wedo

that's good they all have their own ID's.
maybe they have changed it for the newest version?
i'll have a look around and see what i can find about that.
you have some very interesting names for your computers. :D
