i just constructed my own rig....i am very proud of it but when i bought it the guy at the store convinced me somehow that i didnt need the audigy.....so for a month i used the mobos and was extremly disipointed (all the frames were ahead of the sound on dvds...mabye that might help????)... with that said i went and bought the oem card and installed all the drivers and unistalled all the mobos shjt...but i cant get any sound out of the damn card...i have no idea why and windows says it "working properly" but its not.... any suggestions would be super duper...cause i dont wanna waste that 65 on a blown pos...smile :D

does windows still detect the onboard sound?
make sure youve completely disabled it either from the bios or a jumper on the mainboard, and you can also disable any onboard AC97 audio controller you may have.

other than that, there are many threads here in the forum relating to problems with the audigy and XP, do a search so may you will find some helpful info.

the general things you should look for are the sound hardware acceleration either in the dxdiag panel or the sound properties, make sure you have it to full acceleration; and the sound card interrupt request - what IRQ is the sound card using? does it share the request with any other device?

and finally.. as sometimes things are so simple, are cables all set up properly?

thanks for the tips...i see that windows detects legancy audio drivers and the audigy...i am 99% sure all the bios is clear but it has a choice for a audio access interface either PCI or embedded bus...i have PCI...and i cant find the AC97 stuff your talkin bout....my os is 2K pro not xp...though i wish....ill look round the threads...the acceleration is up and all the volumes are up ...whats the IRQ is that in the device manager???? like the same freq or something... and i hope the cables are in right...thanks..ill look round but any other advice would be nice...all the drivers for 2k and the card are up too date ...im just stumped and the peeps at the store want 70 and hour to look at it...it cant be that hard...

please explain better that about the audio access interface in the bios. what is it? one setting, two settings; the options you have, are them to enable or disable..?

you can check the IRQ the sound card uses in System Information, inside the folder System Tools.

one last thing, is there any unknown device detected in device manager?

In addition to the sound, you want to make sure you diable the MIDI port, game port, and AC97' modem. It would also help a lot if you could tell us what mother board you have.
