I had a Cel1.2@1350 (1.75v) running perfectly stable on my old Chaintech 6BTM mobo/Iwill SlocketII. It would even run @1600 on a cool day but then I acquired another Cel1.2 and wanted to see how it runs. I changed the chips, did the wire trick, shielded the usual 3 pins and plugged it in. Unfortunately it appeared not to be a good overclocker as XP just hung on login so I replaced my original. Alas even upon replacing my original XP locked up either on the login screen or just after logging in :(

I have tried reinstalling XP which failed completely as I'd get half way through and get a barage of lock ups, either during the installing network stage or simply a garbled screen! I removed all PCI cards leaving only my graphics card and tried again. Again the system locked up, this time complaining it couldn't load hard disk and CD rom drivers etc. Thankfully, I had an old P3 500 lying around so I plugged that in along with the PCI cards and presto XP installed and worked fine. I then replaced the P3 500@100FSB with the Celeron1.2@100FSB and XP locked up again after load. I was going to give up when I had the idea of underclocking the 1.2 so I did. As soon as I set the FSB to 83 XP loaded and ran fine using the Cel1.2. I haven't a clue as to why the chip is locking up at it's default 1.2 I've tried all the normal voltage ranges the chip had gone through during the previous 2 monthes working at 1350 from 1.45 to 1.75 but I continually get the lock ups after load. If I'm lucky the login procedure completes, if not the login screen becomes slightly grabled and the system locks?

I'd like to put this down to the chip or slocket but I can't help get the feeling it's more to do with speed or power that the new chips is asking for as opposed to a dodgy chip? This is the same chip that can run rock stable at 1600@1.75v and with only changing the chips for a few minutes it's hard to see that any damage would have occured.

Any ideas or advice would be really helpful as I've gone around in circles for 2 days now.

Thanks in adavance,

Celeron1.2@ + Iwill SlocketII (1.70v)
Chaintech 6BTM (BX board, latest bios)
Samsung 30 gig drive
CD-Rewriter
ATI 8500 (stock speeds)
SB Live
Realtek Network
Hauppage WinTV
200W PSU

Windows XP If I'm lucky :(

What cooling are you using, and are you sure the HSF if properly on the CPU?
I used to get lockups at login in Win2K when I was overclocking my CPU to 1600, but better cooling kep tthe chip temp down and the problems went away. Make sure there is proper contact and that you have enough thermal paste in between, not too much, and not too little.

I have done the wire wrap to increase my Vcore, but when i reduce it back to 1.475, and put my chip at 100FSB, it doesn't boot. It now needs 1.59Vcore to even boot. don't know why, maybe due to using high Vcores, maybe not.
Anyone else get this?

I have 2 different coolers, one is the Volcano7+ and the other a Thermaltake. It doesn't appear to matter which I put on the temps are extremely low. I suppose a hot spot could be building up if it's not seated properly but it looks good and fim to me?

My temps BTW trying to run at stock speed don't exceed 30C which is surely far too low to really consider heat problems?

Oh dear, A Cel 1.2 @ 997 hardly inspires me? Especially as my FSB would have to run at 83 :(

I can't help u with the lock ups but you might want to consider installing Win98 as a second operating sistem for testing purposes. Whenever I OC I first test it out in Win98 as Win2K/XP can be seriously messed up by any errors (Win98 seems to tolerate a bit more) and I hate doing reinstalls all the time, especially once I get my Win2K running like I want to.

Yes I considered going back to WinME as it does seem to be more tollerant but during the install it went crazy too using the Cel 1.2. Something strange is definately going on?

I think you degraded the chip. I remember trying some coppermines that gradually got worse and worse after using higher voltages. I'm pretty gunshy about using higher voltages now. I will never go higher than 10% of stock voltage again. If it limits my max oc so be it, better safe than sorry.
