Ok im needing a new sound card, i know audigy is alot better but its not like i have that much beef with my current onboard chip, its just gets a little choppy every once and a while. Right now i have the common altec lansing 20 watt OEM 2.0 tower speakers. The nicest speakers i will get (if i ever do upgrade so) are these (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduct.asp?description=36-113-121&depa=1) The SB live that i might be getting is the 34 buck 5.1 chanel card so i think ill be OK with it. If theres a good reason to spend the $30 more for an audigy please tell me, i really dont see one, im not sriving for theare quality sound or anything here.

i'd save yourself the 30 bucks and go with the 5.1 since you probably really don't need the audigy.

thats what i was thinking too, and the 5.1 has an option to use different speaker sets, theres an imput for the front left and right, and reer left and right, i have 2 sets of decent speakers, so i can take my my audio extention cords (used in past PC setups) and hook up my second set in the reer corners of the room.
i have an audigy and i like it you get 24bit sound and 100db snr and firewire.
you should get an extigy, i think it is have true dolby support, meaning it has dolby digital inputs, it also have all the connectors you sould ever need. but i dont think it is worth the extra money yet.
audigy and live 5.1 only have digital outputs no inputs. eh
oh yeah the audigy also has the new EAX witch does some really cool stuff and is great for gaming.

According to the specs on the creative labs site the 5.1 also has EAX, and i dont care about firewire, if i want it down the road ill get a 3 port PCI slot for 15 bux.

unless you're a hardcore gamer with the need for sound or you do sound editing then you're not really gonna need the audigy. i have 5.1s in both of my computers and they sound perfectly fine when compared to the audigy i put in my aunt's computer. i can't really tell the difference since the only game i really play is starcraft and the only sound i use is from my cds. oh, and the windows start :D
