Hi,
I was wondering if that 87 Chevette heater core comes with two 1/2 inch barbs on it. I seem to remember that it comes with one 1/2 inch barb & 1 3/8 barb. Then again, that might not make sense.
Anyway I want to get one locally as I am getting sick of waiting for it to come in stock (everything else is in my living room).
I was wondering if any specific year came with 1/2 inch barbs on both ends (I like the small size).
Thanks,
Rich

The Chevette Heater core that I have has a 1/2 id fitting and a 3/4 inch fitting, however, the 3/4 id fitting tapers back to a 1/2 pipe size. What I did was cut the 3/4 part of with a hack saw, and I was all set.

So, if I went to the autoparts store, it would have barbs of some type or would it just have a pipe coming out? I wonder if you could just use tygon & a hose clamp to lock it down?
So 1987 is the heater core year I want right?

Yeah, its pretty much just pipe sticking out of the core, I just pushed my Silicon Tubing over and locked it down with a few zip ties, havent had any proplems.

At dtek you can get the '87 chevette heatercore already with barbs on it with either 1/2" barbs or, I think, 3/4" barbs on them. Then I figure I'll just put on the tygon tubing and with some hose clamps to keep the tubing on the barbs.
Where would I get these reliable hose clamps?

That would be a correct statement. Them all that is necessary is to sweat (solder) or JB Weld 1/2" O.D. x 1/4 NPT brass barbs into the remaining pipes. I used JB weld and have had no issues (or leaks).
Or..
Use a 1988 Camaro heater core ($16.95 at Autozone) it's a little larger: roughly 8.5"x7"x2", the core is 7"x7"x2". The extra 1.5" is tankage top and bottom to connect all of the water galleries in the core.

I know Dtek has been backed up & waiting on parts but but its been over 10 days since I ordered & it still hasnt shipped yet. I was told it would ship on Friday (provided the stuff didnt go out of stock) & it has not shipped yet (or I didnt get an email notification).
I will call tomorrow, but I am going to start to consider doing this on my own. I have all the other parts I need aside from the rad & shroud.
I am getting anxious!

I didn't see any hose clamps at dtek, but maybe I wasn't looking in the right place...
