thermaltek orbs with abit socket a motherboards

when trying to buy n orb for my abit k7ta there is a small note at the bottem that says "will not work with abit socket a mb's" whats the deal with this? is this true? is it all orbs or just themalteks ones?

Do some searching for abit-kt7's and orbs. You'll find out they don't like each other. The resistors on the motherboard will try and occupy the same space the hsf does. Go with an alpha instead.

Thermaltake has a 64mm version of the Orb designed to fit Abit boards :)

An "Alpha" is a heatsink manufactured by Alpha Novatech.....high quality heatsinks that constantly perform among the best in any heat sink comparison :)

stay away from thermaltake they are not able to produce a hsf that will even come close to keeping an amd chip cool

just below the cpu socket are four capacitors the orb will hit the 2nd one from the front if you use this hs (god forbid) find a bench grinder and remove a small amount of the fins and it will fit

The Mini Super Orb would work, but frankly I would not use an Orb if you plan on overclocking... Durons and Tbirds throw off a lot of heat when overclocked and while Orbs are better than your run-of-the-mill cheap @$$ OEM socket A heatsinks, they are not intended for serious overclocking. Go Globalwin, Taisol, Alpha, or Swiftech of you intend on doing any more than 50-100 MHz of overclocking.
